What can the MSPA or we do about Shadow Shopper?

They obtained my cell phone number by registering as a provider with Shadow Shopper. Instead of being their attorney, try and actually look at the content of my post.

Looks like a moderator modified my subject line and removed my asking what we can do about this. I'll fix it and leave out the offensive word that others are allowed to use. They also merged my new post warning about the text message I received.

Shadow Shopper is not a MSC. They harvest potential shoppers contact information and sell it to anyone that wants to pay for it. I never said its from SS. I am being very clear that SS doesn't care who anyone is, they just want our money; one way or another.

I agree that Shadow Shopper is a leach on the shopping community. They are skirting the edges of being legal and do list jobs for real companies. I have access to the real companies job boards that they cut and paste partial information from and try to get people to pay them to give them the information we so kindly share with the verified list at the bottom of every page of real companies.

If the fact is true that they allow 419 scammers to list advance fraud check scams with them and maintain the association logo is atrocious and needs to be a sticky here.

Jacob should have someone with a great writing style and a one month membership who is a solid shopper do a write up in MSM and let the facts fall where they must.

I personally laughed as they described jobs I had already done and found zero value as an experienced shopper. As a new shopper, you will find a deficit value IMHO.

Well, here is my two cents.
So you don't really believe the scammer is Shadow Shopper. Good. If I understand you, you're saying the scammer registered as an MSC with Shadow Shopper and got your information from them. If that happened, there was a breach but that does not mean Shadow Shopper is a scammer.

In answer to your most recent thread title, I don't believe we can or should do anything about Shadow Shopper. If you advised them about your experience with Alex whatshisname you have done your part. Thank goodness Shadow Shopper has taken the high road by not responding to these attacks.

I regret that someone accessed your information. I don't think any of us are ever 100% safe as we hear constantly about big banks, huge retailers, and others that we expect to be secure being breached and client data accessed.

You're welcome on the bump. Consider this another one. You're welcome again.

Isaiah, While well intentioned, I think we have gotten the message about Shadow Shopper by now. We all know scams aren't going to give you money so it might be more profitable to concentrate on real shops instead of scams (although some of the scammers emails are funny!).

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.

Being a new shopper, I am grateful for this post so I know what to look for. I keep seeing that there are scams out there but this is the first example that I have seen.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

The Shadow Shopper "connection" aside, anyone who would fall for this deserves what they get. The poor grammar and wording, incorrect capitalization and punctuation, etc., are a dead giveaway that this is a scam. They're a known hallmark of this type of e-mail scam. How anyone could begin to think this is a legitimate mystery-shopping offer is beyond me. If anyone has any awareness at all that the internet is fraught with scams, they know this is one. Or should know.

I loved your response BirdyC, but we all need to remember that everyone one of us were newbies. Given the reading skill I find with kids I tutor when I have time; I can see how people get sucked into these scams.

I lucked out because my very first scheduler told me how to get it done. Specifically, told me not to pay for any job references. I bet you dollars to donuts, that there are quite a few that had to learn some hard lessons, because they didn't have the benefit of a scheduler who decided I'm training this chick right from the get go.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Sorry, I was in bed looking at my phone when I answered this and didn't have a chance to read the entire posting. Glad I have never had much to do with them. Good luck.

Happy Holidays all!

Merry Christmas to everyone!

I do understand that everybody here was once a newbie in this business. I should have been clear that my point wasn't specific to mystery shopping. Anyone who uses the internet on a regular basis must be aware of these scams. They've been publicized over and over again for years. I'm assuming that most people who are interested in mystery shopping have some degree of internet savvy. Even if not, people who read the newspaper or watch TV news programs must be aware of these scams. Or they've been living under a rock for 15 years. winking smiley

I didn't mean to imply that everybody who's been taken in by an internet scam (I was once, but not this type of thing) deserves it. And if this particular e-mail or posting were well written and professional sounding, using correct grammar, punctuation, etc., I might see a newbie being sucked in. But that one was so bad it's laughable!

People need to use some common sense when looking at things like this!

And Merry Christmas to you, and to everyone who celebrates it. And Happy Holidays to those who celebrate other holidays at this time of year!

I was an English tutor for a brief time. It was downright depressing.
