Tip-off #1: The incorrect and poor grammar, including incorrect spacing after punctuation, along with the random and incorrect capitalization. (Even worse than what we see from legitimate MSCs.)

Tip-off #2: Wal-Mart and Western Union.

I see more, but these are two huge red flags.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
1) Big Red Flag - $250 Per assignment! In their dreams. LoL.

2) Big Red Flag - Cashiers check. Not going to cash that.

3) Little Red Flag - Poor Grammer, etc, as mentioned above.

4) Big Red Flag - Asking for personal information through email instead of secure website.

5)Medium Sized Red Flag - Mentioning WalMart (why is it always WalMart...lol)

6)Huge Red Flag - Mentioning Western Union!

It has to be legit. It's copyrighted!!

I wonder how they get our email address with the Shopper connection?
Here? MSC websites? MSC employees making an extra buck selling their list?
Maybe they got the list from Santa Clause, cause I KNOW we all wished for better pay this year!
They don't get our email lists and it wouldn't make sense for them to target real mystery shoppers since we know it's a scam. Look at the "to" line on a spam email line sometime. Unless they set it up as a blind copy you will see all sorts of variations on the same username. For instance, LisaSTL, LidaSTL, LivSTL26479, etc. The blast these things to tens of thousands of people. How many do they have to catch off guard to make the whopping five minutes it took to write and send the email worthwhile?

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
By the way, Spicy, ever since the movie came out, people have been misspelling Santa Clause. His name is Claus. A clause is a legal document. It was a play on words in the movie.
I'm pretty sure I've spelled it that way my entire life......hmmmm....maybe I've never actually written the name.....maybe that's why my ex divorced me!? Maybe that's why I didn't get roller skates in 4th grade.
The primary red flag is they're asking me for my e-mail address. If they just contacted me they should have it, or know my responding they will get it.
In over 8 years mystery shopping, I have never had a legitimate company contact me by email offering me a job unless it was a company I had already signed up with.

Not that this is the case, but I have. Sometimes schedulers refer you to companies they work with when reliable. I got a sweet high paid senior home visit (more than double anything I've seen shopped around) with a small company by being referred by a scheduler. It was more work than a typical senior shop, but worth it.

But, I was not offered and advance of $250 and e t c. smiling smiley
I wonder how many people who are already thieves with a fake ID don't play along until they get the well made fraudulent check. They could then cash it at one of the quick check cashing places and keep all of the money. There is no honor among thieves.
How about this one that I received today: (copied and pasted)

Who spells data as d4ta? The word "Address" with periods between all the letters?
The "to" on the address of the email has no clues, from an illinois.edu address.
My guess is most of the email addresses are spoofed or real ones that were hacked. For some reason emails from universities and colleges is the most common.

Maybe they're trying to fool the spam filter software by spelling out some words with periods? I can't imagine that "data" and "address" are the words that would mark this out as definitely spam, but who knows? That's the only thing I can think of.

What's funny to me is the shops taking two hours. I've actually had video shops paying that much for half the time, LOL!
