Woodforest Bank shops

Lissy, you open the account with a $25 deposit. The fees are waived for 30 days so you can get your direct deposit set up. If you choose, you can close the account after 18 days.

Just be warned that this msc takes a long time to pay. They do pay, it just seems very slow, at least to me.
Longer than ath?

"I told myself to quit you; but I don't listen to drunks." -Chris Stapleton
No, much faster than ath. They tend to pay in about 4-5 weeks. The last 2 months of shops I did for this MSC paid in about a month. I did 4 shops 3/2-3/4 and was paid 4/6. I did 3 shops between 4/4 and 4/6 and was paid 5/10.
I never noticed them paying late at all.

Lissy, did you get this shop?

I'm late to this, but if you haven't done it yet, just be prepared to write a LOT of narrative! The shop fee is nice, but it's in line with the amount of time you'll spend on it!

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
Does anyone know if the teller shops are done monthly or quarterly, or something? I'm keeping my account open, but I haven't seen any teller shops at all, just account-opening shops. I opened my account at the end of April, and my shop was approved at the end of the "waiting period."

Has anyone seen or done one of these recently?

I was doing the Woodforest teller shops quarterly for a few years. I've not seen one in several months now. This MSC has another bank client for whom I do teller shops, and they have some posted right now for that bank but not for Woodforest.
That's why I ended up closing my account. I was doing 1 teller shop a quarter for $10 so $40 a year. The account was like $8 a month or something (?), which they gladly took care of for you, but I always forgot to email them when it hit, so I ended up spending almost as much on fees per year as I made. If they had an automated system, or even if the scheduler just kept a spreadsheet of shopper accounts she emailed to them each month for fee reversals, I would have kept the account open and continued doing them.

I'm lucky I'm such an old lady; I qualified for the free checking account, so I don't have to remember to send in for reimbursement. Otherwise, I don't think I'd have kept it open, since I'm sure I'd forget to e-mail them, too.

These are good shops, yet my issues with them are that there just aren't enough that are assigned to me despite applying for a dozen or so of them when these shops are released. I may apply to 15-20 video shops within my region, yet may get accepted for 3 or 4, at best. Payment has never been an issue, yet like BGriffin mentioned earlier, you have to remind the scheduler on when Woodforest deducts the $7.95 monthly service charge from your deposit.

The upside in having this account is that the bank is open everyday, and that you can make deposits during unconventional hours while traveling on the road, for example. I kept an account with Woodforest for several years while doing their written shops, yet kept forgetting about the service charge whenever I wasn't doing shops for the MSC or keeping a low balance. If I had to critic the scheduler on anything, it would be in the timeliness in getting the service charge fees refunded consistently. Other than that, she's actually pretty cool to talk with, and she is somewhat prompt in corresponding via email.
bgriff, the guidelines say that you can close the account after 18 days, if I remember correctly. You kept it open past that, and the MSC still reimbursed your monthly fees?

If that's the case, I might keep mine open longer to see if the teller shops come to this area.

I closed the first Woodforest account I opened as soon as it was allowed. A year or so later, I opened another account, and have kept it open. I wouldn't want the hassle of dealing with fees, but mine is a free account. I was told that I could open a second account of a different type. Maybe I will one of these days, if I see a real plum. I have teller shops later this month that were assigned in April. They're not the only reason I have kept my account open, but sure are nice.
@Eric in Tampa

I had the same issue. After talking to her i found out they only need a percentage (20?) of the video shops done. They don't pay enough to do them as one offs and i never could get enough of them to make a viable route out of. Sorry but I'm not putting on my cam for $30 in the middle of a busy day.

@HonnyBrown

If you read the materials it plainly states that if you keep the account open to do teller shops they would refund the fees. At least it did when I did them.

My guidelines don't mention the teller shops, bgriff. That's why I asked.

Then perhaps they no longer do.

I applied to five of the video shops on 6/10, and as of today, the applications are still sitting in queue. WTH???
@Eric in Tampa --
I find the MSC to be slow in assigning shops, so I cancel my application after 2 days so that I don't get surprised with a last-minute assignment.

Last year I was able to visit the same location multiple times, now I can only visit a location once a year.
Eric, their shop assignments take a while. When they do get assigned, you get a deadline a few weeks out, as opposed to a hard date.

Someone mentioned on a different thread that when MSCs don't remove a shop from the job board, those who applied are used unwittingly as backups. The MSC for Woodforest does that, too, so beware. I forgot to delete one of my applications and surprise! I was assigned a shop that I had long since forgotten about. I was told on a Wednesday that the shop was due Sunday. And it was a 3-day holiday weekend. To be safe, now I delete my applications after 2 days.

I'm glad that you mentioned deleting your applications, Chris. I wound up deleting mine. I think a week in pended status is more than enough time waiting. Several years ago, I remember the MSC assigning me a couple of written shops within 2 days of the due date after the applications had sat in queue for at least 11-12 days. I completely forgot about it, until BAM! Your assignment is due in 2 days. Luckily for me and the scheduler at the time, I was within the area to complete both shops.
BirdyC yes I got the shop and have done everything just waiting for the follow up phone call so I can compete it... I didn't think it was any worse than other shops I've done but I think I am one of those people that overwrite and always give more than the required sentences so I probably wrote too much on many of my reports lol and thanks for asking!!

The account opening shops are back with a $5 bonus! I snagged the one left in this area.
