How does this sound for a Mystery Shoppers Resume

Independent Consultant
Aug 2014 to Currently
Retail Quality Control Consultant
Would perform inspections and audits of different companies. I have to be a self-starter to find the work. I have done audits and customer service checks of a variety of different companies: As in cell phone companies, bank tellers, personal bankers, different types of new and used auto dealers and auto service places. Grocery stores, Department stores, Jewelry stores, Convenience stores. Truck stops and restaurants. Submitted reports of my findings online.

I'd remove soft skills altogether (bolded) or separate it from your job description.

I wouldn't say we're consultants; we're more like "data gatherers" or "evaluators." As shoppers, we don't provide much outside of observations and sometimes our subjective thoughts.

Just a suggestion to shorten up and go straight to the point for the description:

Independent Contractor (IC) – Field Evaluator / Retail Quality Control Technician?
Aug 2014 to Present
• Performed inspections, customer service checks and audits as an IC for various companies.
• Submitted project-specific reports of the work performed above.
• Inspected cell phone companies, banks, new and used auto dealers, auto service places, grocery stores, department stores, jewelry stores, convenience stores, ruck stops and restaurants.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!
"Detail orientated" are buzz words that are often looked for in resumes and would be appropriate for a MS.
2stepps,
Before my heart attack, my line of work was in Human Resources, mostly Recruiting. As I always tell my friends, a resume is the first - and if it is bad - the last thing a potential employer sees about you. Please forgive the above lecture, but I can't count the number of times I did not advance a resume due to its quality. Okay, I will get down off of my soap box now and tell you what suggestions I would make. (Be sure to run a spell check against what I write as it is 7 a.m. and I am about 3/4 asleep!)

Independent Contractor, Various Companies
Aug 2014 to Current
Perform in depth quality reviews on a contracted location's performance in customer service, management and adherence to corporate standards. These reviews require confidentiality, discretion, close attention to details and an ability to judge a situation quickly.

Write clear and concise reports about the above visits. These reports must be highly accrurate and detailed as they are frequently used in support of employee displine, management bonuses and corporate business reviews.
The above looks perfect. My only question would be using "Independent Contractor, Various Companies." Why not use self-employed along with whatever description you see fit such as consultant, evaluator or brand auditor then mention a variety of "clients" instead of companies?

I'm wondering if adding anything about your flexibility and/or availability for clients with immediate or emergency needs would help make you appear professional and able to prioritize a client's needs.

I wouldn't. Certainly 'flexibility in the types of evaluations performed' could be a plus, but last minute jobs might sound as though you weren't already pretty busy.

And I like the notion of it being self-employment because there are IC jobs out there actually run through a corporate entity that rents you out. As a self-employed person you are responsible for all aspects of running a small business from networking, scheduling, performance and reporting, to accounts receivable and tax accounting.

Hey Bubba, how'd you make out with online dating? Did your "tell it like it is" style make the women swoon? Just curious...

No, just being a Bubba is what makes women swoon. Swoon right into the nearest toilet bowl.

Performs corporate inspections and audits. Self-starter, I have accepted and performed hundreds of audits and customer service checks/evaluations for a variety of companies and organizations. This includes telecommunications providers, and the banking industry; including evaluation of tellers, personal bankers, lenders and investors. I audit many types of new and used automobile dealers and service centers. I have performed detailed and extensive audits and evaluations for grocers, retail department store chains, and high-end jewelry stores and fashion retailers. Additionally, I audit and rate many travel centers/truck stops and gas stations. Detailed reporting including fact gathering, photographing, and submission of the online corporate reports and results.

Do you like any of these suggestions?
I thought I was following posts about suggested resume wording, but now see that the posts have wandered to online dating and wooing women. Really ?
I still prefer self-employed consultant to independent contractor. I eschew online dating preferring to meet men the old-fashioned way, in bars.

I prefer to meet men the old-fashioned way also - at funerals. Get 'em fresh back on the market!
I'm not sure the OP was designing the resume for a MSC. It comes up now and then because people who have mystery shopped for several years may decide to pursue other interests. Considering how much we do and how valuable our skills can be, having a compelling description for mystery shopping can make a resume stand out.

Mystery shopping may be a hobby for you, but for a lot of us here it is a business that supports us.

Mystery shopping is not a hobby for me either. It mainly pays for my vacays and other exciting adventures.
Thanks for the laugh, I needed that. How about only dating married men,?
No snoring, no laundry to do, they remember anniversaries and ..... they go home.
Whatever your final version, please avoid clichés, trendy keywords and phrases, and "important-speak." Your resume shouldn't sound just like everybody else's. When people too closely follow structured formulas, their resumes don't set them apart. Keep it short and sweet, but make it unique enough to catch somebody's eye. Actually, if you just avoid "trend-speak," your resume will probably stand out! winking smiley

You've gotten some very good suggestions here.

Oh, I did want to say that I'd avoid the word "consultant" unless you have years of experience in advising companies as a true consultant. To some hiring managers, "consultant" screams "unemployed and trying to make it as a freelance whatever and trying to make the work sound more than it is."

I'm not sure what the best term would be, but "Self Employed XXX" or "Independent XXX," as have been suggest here are good.... Service-industry auditor? Retail evaluator?
