I submit that you folks who do these jobs for low fees just because, "It is not my main job; I just do it for whatever..." are the real main competitors to those of us who do this for a living and treat it as a business. I'm not saying this situation will ever change; I'm just saying that such folks are the serious mystery shoppers' real and most damaging competitors.

in this business every shopper is a competitor taking low fees or not

Either a competitor or a comrade...I know there's at least two other members on this forum who are shopping all up in "my" area. Based on their posts, I see them as great sources of advice rather than competition. There's enough shops out here to go around, I can't do them all! ;-P

With Mystery Shopping there is no "foot in the door."

Not even close to true. While it depends on the MSC, it's very common to need to take a few "unpopular" shops to prove you can do a good job before you get the really hard shops.
with me its a fun way of getting paid to do things that i normally do anyway (burgers out) or things i struggle to pay for or normally don't do (car washes and oil changes) ... i probably don't do more than 20 shops in a year but its a fun way to earn some money and i know shops that are easy and pay well

shopping north west PA and south west ny
Just be sure to set some cash aside for when your car breaks down, gets old and worn out! I have been without a car for almost a year now. I still do shops on the bike and a bus in a large city. My car may or may not be fixed this year, but I am still learning plenty and choosing to call it a (good) experience. Have to be careful in accepting drive thru vs. dine in, as well!

And you are getting good exercise, which is a good thing. You can ride off those dine in shops.
