Whoopsies as an IC

So, there I was Friday on a restaurant shop I've performed many times. I am enjoying my food when I freeze and think WOOPS!!! I forgot to take a picture before eating anything. I sheepishly rearrange things and take a picture. Yep, NOT GONNA work. Kind of ashamed at myself for even thinking to try and sneak that by.

Other things under my control that I mess up:

Forgetting to pay with cash, when it is required, trips me up sometimes.

Making sure my itemized receipt is returned to me.

Assuming Google Maps has the location correctly pinned.

Yep, I just did that recently too--after REPEATEDLY reminding my guests not to touch ANYTHING AT ALL before getting a photo. Naturally, it was a fine dining shop where I had to explain what I did and sweat it out until client approval.

There were three garage entrances serving a building in the 400 block of E Street, all managed by the same client. All included the name of the office complex in that block. I, of course, parked in the wrong one last week. Saving grace? My scheduler looked and found that the other two garages had not yet been shopped for the month and transferred to me the one that I had visited. Now I also have to go back and to the one originally scheduled, but that's fine. These pay enough so that I will be happy to have the extra shop.

@wales - that's exactly why I don't shop in DC!

@isaiah - one of my friends only does food shops. He takes his wife along as the guest. The way that he got around the missing picture was to use one phone to find an image of the meal, and the other to take a picture. He photoshopped the hek out of it when he got home and submitted it with his report.

I'm surprised your friend was so willing to admit to fraud.

Honny,
Well it depends on how you look at it. This MSC has edited the assignments for all three addresses to explain to shoppers which entrance is which. One is on 4th Street, the two on E Street are easily distinguished if you know that there are two there. They take helping their shoppers succeed seriously. As for going back into the city to pick up the missed shop, I was offered several others to make the trip VERY worthwhile.

So, in essence, I was rewarded for discovering something that will help all of their shoppers succeed. I got credit for the original shop as well. I figure that this was an "everyone wines; nobody loses," sort of situation.

I think he admitted it to me because I don't do food shops.

Also, we went to college together. Need I say more?

I need a glass of chardonnay after trying to map that in my head.

So, yes, it is a wine win for everyone!!!!

I finally did 2 restaurant shops this month. It was a great lesson.

I admire anyone who takes them on, but they aren't my cup of tea.

Posts like this do not belong here. Posts like this are why more and more clients and MSCs have had to become more and more critical of our reports. What you described does not even make sense by the way. The resulting image would have no way of looking realistic. Lets refrain please for even hinting to others it is acceptable to cheat, lie or be dishonest in any way.

Yup, done that too. Only mine was a pizza shop. I forgot to take photo before eating. While checking my handwritten notes, I see that I needed to take photo. I ordered a second pizza as a to go. When I received the second pizza, I switched the to go pizza with the eaten pizza. I placed the to go pizza onto the entree serving plate. The eaten pizza went into the to go box. I took the to go pizza as my food photo.
I just did this yesterday. I had my instructions for my shops on my clip board ready to perform. Two of the shops required phone calls. One shop was an apartment shop and one was a candy shop. Okay,I was supposed to call ahead to get an appointment for the apartment shop. The candy shop was a post phone call. I inadvertently called the candy shop and said that I was interested in an apartment. The associate wasn't sure what I asked. Again, I said that I was interested in an apartment. The associate replied that the city was a great place to live but informed me that it was a candy store. I apologized and said that I had some numbers listed and must have transposed some numbers. We both had a good laugh though.
I missed the photo for a shop and I sent in a photo from the internet BUT I told the MSC that I got the photo from the internet.
I don't get how anyone gets away with this beeswax.

It's my job to submit accurate reports on time. I contract to get work done within the said time frame with photos, receipts and on time.

Have I done this 100% of the time?, NO. I have been stuck on my own property because of flash flooding. I'm not going to drive somewhere where wild fires are over the top and not allowed to drive into the area anyways. I'm not going to drive across areas that flash flooding will kill me, wreck my car or both. Flash flood rescues in TX start at $500; no amount of fees is worth putting myself in danger and/or going to jail.

This business really depends on ethics. Shoppers, who take short cuts hurt all shoppers trying to do their jobs right.

Good input. Somehow the thread got hijacked, seems to happen here at times.

After 11 months.... finally did it today for the first time. Shopped the wrong location.
In an area I know well too. I just got it in my head that I was supposed to go to 123 ABC Road, never looked at the address again, or when I did, I glossed over that it was 250 XYZ Street instead. When I get back in my car and start writing down notes, the address screams at me: 250 XYZ Street. What a real, empty feeling. I can now relate.

(Fortunately all I was out was a $1.75 for a soda I wanted anyway. It was the wasted time that stunk. Got the shop done at 250 XYZ Street afterward).
Welcome. You are now a veteran shopper!

You know the best thing to do when you miss a photo on a food shop? (Or any other?) TELL the MSC. Most of them (except Maritz) are understanding and will try to help you out. Maritz, you're gonna have to go back and get it or your shop won't get accepted. But they will at least allow you to go back. Most other companies, from things I have heard and two experiences, will usually allow the shop to go through and the client accepts it.
Two people at the table, but we told the server separate checks. Appetizer arrived and my partner digs in before I can stop him. So when the server came to take our order, my partner exclaims that he has to have more of the appetizer (it was a great dish), and ordered another. We were sooo stuffed.
Another time, same place, the muffin that was part of the entree was served early. I had a brain fart and broke it open to butter it, then froze. I put it back together and took the pic, and fessed up to the MSC. This MSC is usually very strict, but I got an email thanking me for telling them, and the shop was accepted!

NOTE: I'm not on the forum every day. If someone comments on my post, I might not reply right away. I've been a shopper since 1991. I've never done any work for a MS company in any other capacity.
