I don't know how long you've been shopping, but I find the "me vs. them" attitude you have to be very sad. MSPs are not your adversaries.

I don't think of any MSP as my adversary at all. Unless they give me very clear reason to think otherwise (and I have not seen that happen with any of the companies that I have been associated with), I think that we are on the same team. But that does not mean that what seems to be simply failing to do them a favor is unethical. However, if I am perhaps overlooking some specific ethical standard, please do let me know what that standard is. I would certainly appreciate that.

@schylarsok, you're too kind. I wouldn't split that hair, i.e., before or after accepting a shop.

I only do the job I'm paid for, which has a very specific time frame. I'm not being paid to be Paul Revere and alert the MSC about anything in advance of a shop. They can find out everything when I submit the report, which both the MSC and I get paid for.

Early notification only benefits the client, who should have known the location was closed in the first place. Or, maybe the report is their way of finding out. Don't short-circuit the system. smiling smiley
@ggm2016- Not much of a "team" when one team member won't do a favor for another team member. I'm referring to your specific post, not to the original OP's question of whether or not something was ethical.

How many hundreds of "favors" are done on a daily basis for shoppers by MSPs? Examples that stand out in my mind are when an MSP grants a report extension or a reschedule because the shopper is in a bind.

This is obviously not going anywhere, so I'll leave it at that.

I have done favors for my MSPs and am happy to continue to do so. I have no objection to that. I only object to the failure to do a favor being presented as an ethical violation. If anyone can point to an ethical standard that I am overlooking, I would certainly appreciate it.
