Ace Cash Express: Major Mistake

I must have been extremely tired to have done this. I accepted an Ace Cash Express (not in the best part of town). I was told that I had to put my social security number on the back of my check in order to cash. How stupid because I did!! Has anyone done this shop and was requested the same.

I'm glad that I have my credit frozen on all three credit bureaus. But I still can't believe I provided it. I am wondering if I should call their main office?

I have done this shop many times and never been asked to put the ss number on the back of the check, just sign it. Ace is a reputable company so maybe it was just an error on the employee's part. When I did my first shop I did have to provide my social security number to be put into the system but that was on the initial paperwork, once you are in the system you do not have to provide your ss number again.
I know. I really don't know what to do. As you can tell it's still bothering me. Thank you for your input. I do appreciate.
I had a similar situation with Ace in an unsavory neighborhood but it was for a loan shop. They asked for my social security card where all of the over locations I had done had not. I went on their website to find that the info they requested is not even required for that service. I contacted my scheduler and they reported it to the client. I'm not sure what happened after that point, but I would look into it and monitor credit activity for a while.
I would have not done/finished the shop if they asked for my social security number be written on the back of the check. There is no shop worth it becoming a victim of identity theft ....that takes years to correct.

Count me out. tongue sticking out smiley
Why not put the wrong number to satisfy them. Although I wouldn't want to hurt anyone else. What do you guys think!!!
I think that's a bad idea. I think I would just refuse to put my SS# and go call/email my scheduler immediately.

Not always true. A few years ago, two Ace employees near here were arrested and convicted for extortion of funds. This is probably why the business is monitored.

Ahhh, eck, Robin. Just added to my 10 foot pole. Not to mention that the previous MSC was known to bonus the shops $100 or more! Would I do it for less? I think not.
I may have gotten $97 once, still hostile over the "take over", and haven't done any since. sniff
