testing site?

Anyone done any of these shops? From the brief description it appears you register to take a test ( that you'll fail). Just wondering what all it entails. I emailed the scheduler for more info. but would like to hear from experienced shoppers. Thanks!

I did a few of them in the past, but not in the past few years. I actually passed the last one I did! I didn't mean to pass it and had no training on the subject. There are others who have done them more recently that can give you more details as I think some of the requirements have changed since I last did them.
It depends on the particular Testing Center, and Exam you are taking. There are usually certain tasks you need to complete, designed to test the exam center employees/proctors, while on site and a set amount of time you have to be on site. In my experience staying on site, and actually going through the exam question by question on a topic you may or may not have any knowledge or interest in, is the hardest part of these exam center shops. So far I've been lucky and only done exams which were interesting, at least to me. However not all exam center shops are created equally. Sometimes the tasks include pretending to bribe the proctor and/or to try and cheat.

These have varied enough over time that you really do need to know current requirements. Back when I was doing them you tried to sneak something into the test room. I used to do starlight mints in a shirt pocket since pants pockets contents, purse and watch etc. needed to be left in a locker. More recently folks were being asked to try to take notes into the exam, which would give me pause. I used to have to ask for 'help' in retaking the exam and always got appropriate advice referring me to study groups. I'm sure that has changed long since as well.
I did one last month. I was told to sneak notes in-in a very specific way . My facility was on the ball and the specific way is one they are actually looking for and so I got nowhere near the testing room. I also almost passed my test. Had I not gotten a bit bored, I would have passed. You were required to stay there for a full hour. Had I actually taken the class that taught the info, I never would have needed the full hour to take the test as I left at exactly an hour and was one question shy of passing.
Thanks for the info everyone! Think I'll pass on these shops. I'd have a 25 minute or so drive there & back, an hour at the testing site, plus report time.... I'd be working for next to nothing per hour. No thanks.
I've done the testing center gig three times, once with the sneak-in-notes requirement. I managed to sneak the notes in and was caught when I took them out at my desk. I failed the test each time. I like the gig. It's pretty straightforward and the form doesn't suck.

This past Friday, I actually went to a testing center with the intended purpose of passing an exam. I took the Florida exam for health and life insurance and annuities. Security at this location was much more lax then the other locations I visited. Maybe they've relaxed security at all locations since I last took an exam through them? Dunno. Anywho, I passed. Barely. I studied some things which weren't on the test at all and didn't study some things which were covered by many questions. Not a great performance by any stretch, but I passed.
