Selfies

I was doing a gas station today. After the MS portion while I was doing the audit and taking pictures, the CSR at the station asked if he could take a Selfie with him in his XXXuniform and me in my orange vest. It is a station that I have shopped many times and the same man is always there. He is very nice and helpful and he probably knew I was there to do the audit the minute I walked in the door. I did not know how to respond. What would you do? Would you let him take it?

Absolutely not, because of the mystery part of mystery shopper

Revealed audits trumps the mystery in some cases, like this shopper.

It really depends, this obviously walked a thin line between professionalism and that's up to you to make that decision.

It's like on my full time job whenever vendors treat me out to lunch or even alcoholic beverages after work hours for "business parties." Understand what you're getting into and if it'll tarnish your reputation and any companies you're representing.

If you decide to take a selfie with the guy, I'd obviously hide any trace of the mystery shopping company you're representing. Again, it'll be up to you to know what you're allowed and not allowed to do. Some of those guidelines will specifically state to keep the interaction with the store employees brief and not talk about the work. At the same time, sounds like the employee isn't necessarily pestering you about the work specifically anyways.

Maybe the guy wanted a picture of you because he suspects your the mystery shopper...why else?

What? This was after the the shopper reveal and during / after the audit, hence the orange vest.

No, I would not let him take it. During this portion, you were revealed, but when you return to this location, during the mystery shop you will NOT be revealed. When you shop other locations where personnel might be known to this clerk, you will NOT be revealed. I realize that clerks in stations you shop regularly know who you are, but I believe the company expects you to make every effort to remain a "mystery" until the reveal.

I've never done those shops, so didn't understand the process. Here in L.A. Selfies are taken right and left.
Maybe it was harmless, use your own judgement.

I don't take selfies IRL so why would I want to take a selfie IFL? I would just tell him/her that I wouldn't want to break his/her phone/camera.
As far as staying a mystery, with a revealed audit, it is hard to do. I have actually seen blown-up still photos of mystery shoppers pinned up on a bulletin board or wall in the back with the word "mystery shopper" written in ALL CAPS. Some bank and gas station employees use the security video footage to create these photos. Some are even identifying us by our cars/license plates. I switch up looks and vehicles often.
No way. You'll probably end up on his social media pages and on who knows how many work-related forums.
