Us old people... (venting and whining)

Today I attempted to sign up for a candy store. I'm 44. I've done them last year when I'm in that particular area. When I tried to sign up today a message popped up and said I had to be under 40. Nowhere in the assignment description does it mention this. This must be a newer requirement. What the msc fails to realize is that I have a 10 and 12 year old who would be accompanying me, and they love candy. I would not be conspicuous at all.

I suppose us "over 40" aren't supposed to eat candy, probably because of our dentures. And us old-timers don't go to Spencer's Gifts because we're too busy knitting in our rocking chairs.

I think the young ones shouldn't eat candy due to needing to care for their teeth, and health reasons, however,
the forty somethings would buy the candy for family as opposed to young college kids that have no money.
Very odd, I agree, forty is now the new 30, guess this MSC doesn't know that!! For the most part, (9 times out of 10) age isn't a problem, the good thing about Msing. Rocking chairs...funny.

edited to add: I remember two woman's shops banning over 45's...but we have daughters and shop for and with them. I've also bought a cute blouse (on my own) at Forever 21.....maybe the clients should rethink this, ya think?

I too have a rocking chair. I tried knitting but sucked at it. I enjoy crocheting more. I also love candy (ate a huge bag of Swedish Fish last Friday) and do go to Spencer's Gifts occasionally.
Keep in mind that these requirements at likely an agreement between the MSC and their client. If this kind of age requirement is what the MSC's client wants, they'll obviously lean towards them rather than satisfying their entire shopper pool.

I agree. I just think the clients sometimes aren't the brightest when they put age limits on their stores.
There are so many clients that are missing the boat when they restrict the age of shoppers. Who has discretionary income? Seniors, for the most part. I see so many more older shoppers taking the kids and grandkids shopping when I go into stores. The idea that older women are wearing a house dress and a cardigan sweater is so last century. I see women wearing very youthful outfits. I shop at Spencer's for Nightmare Before Christmas items, also for joke shower and Christmas gifts. I'm 61. If I'm too old to MS them, I guess I'm too old to spend my money there too.
I buy more now than when I was married raising my family and money went to lessons, college, cars etc.
I always buy a little something for my daughter, have more time to shop and live in the stores since being retired (why I shop). The demographic of some clients are all wrong, not thinking we shop for our families
who are young and without money to buy whatever they want. I hope a few clients are reading this, and update their minds.....I know many widows that have a lot of money, so, older may be better in some cases.
Maybe they should have a guard stand at the door of the candy store and check our ID's....smiling smiley

It was interesting to me when I years ago did a shop at the retail store where they had models instead of salespeople, loud music and low lights. Due to senility I cannot remember the name of the store but it was one of the many ones starting with an A. (Aeropostal? perhaps) When I had to approach one of the models per the rules for the shop she needed to get a flashlight to read the label to me. She also had trouble hearing my question as it was so loud in the store. I was the youngest person shopping there the day I did my shop and I too have 2 digits in my age and am above the age for many shops. I heard they went into bankruptcy. Perhaps they should have tried harder to attract the baby boomers many of whom have the time and money to shop and help out their kids who cannot find good enough paying jobs to purchase anything there.

Abercrombie & Fitch, you're probably talking about. The quality of material for their clothing has dropped quite a bit over the past couple of years, which was pretty sad to see.

Aeropostale filed for bankruptcy.

Abercrombie and relatives finally saw the light and brightened up their stores. They're not in bankruptcy, that's Aeropostle.

Agreed. The downside is the lower quality material they appear to be using in their clothing to remain competitive. I don't believe it's in my head, but I have noticed that though they've lowered their price for their clothing, the thickness, feel, texture, etc. is matching that lower price. I've stopped purchasing any clothing from there and treat the place like Gap now whenever sifting through their clearance sections.

Isn't everyone over the age of 9 and under the age of 100 "still in the two digits?
You got lost...my humor was.....I'm not in the three digits, seniors understood.

For those of you complaining about age limitations, did you ever stop and think that maybe the client has been saturated with reports all year long from 40+ shoppers? Maybe they added the age limit to get a target shop base.
Age discrimination is NOT allowed by LAW and there are stiff penalties for this. How do mystery shopping companies and product demo companies get away with this? If you can do the job and report correctly or sell product, why is this not being fined? I don't have to have my chest hanging out to sell product and be a size 4. One can always be making a purchase for someone else, a daughter or granddaughter. I'd like someone in Human Resources to address this since they are often the ones to be held accountable in hiring practices. The client should not be able to age discriminate EITHER and the representing company should review this LAW with them.

How dare the client prefer a specific demographic to help them understand how their staff reacts and responds to a target demographic?!

How dare those clients require their shoppers to be a female! I am a male and deserve to have the same opportunity for those projects!

How dare these companies require the shopper to be 30 years of age or less for those alcohol ID checks?!

Perhaps it is useful to study that age group for some unstated reason. (Butif we whine enough, they might give us free candy just to shut us up ... grinning smiley)

Are you for real? We are ICs (Independent Contractors) NOT employees. Look it up if you don't know the difference. We have not been hired in the traditional sense. There is no discrimination. There is no Human Resources. There is no law.

How dare those MSC's who hire only private investigator employees in Nevada place age restrictions for some of their client projects!!

Exactly right, Sybil. Cupcakes is massively confused and seems to feel this is an issue of employment law. It is not.
Actually - how hilarious - not long ago we had a discussion about calling other posters snowflake and cupcake.

Several of the female posters believed the use of cupcake as a name was very offensive. Now we have a poster who has selected "Cupcake" as a screen name.
Why would anyone be offended at being called a cupcake? Cupcakes are sweet with creamy frosting. Besides the sugar count and calories, there is nothing to be offended by.

Why would anyone be offended at being called a snowflake? They are unique and beautiful. Besides being cold and eventually melting, there is nothing to be offended by.

Only if when we responded to a quote by them we referred to them by shortening their name like many of us do:
Sybil2=Syb, MsJudi=Judi or Ms and finally in my examples Snowflake= Flake....
That can't be PCB. He might be a little off from time to time (better to be a moreoff than a moron), but he isn't that dense about IC status.
