You could always try telling them you're "not from here originally" so you don't have a SSN but you do have a tax payer ID, is that what they need instead? If it's a shady company, they probably will tell you no or never mind...

the candy store did change their age to 21 to 30 last month now this month upped it to 40 but still most be 21 or older. Ridiculous for a nostalgic candy store.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
Dare, one MSC sent out a blast email for a clothing store. The top age requirement was 48, so that applied to me as I am 48.

When I applied, I got a pop up saying that the age requirement was between 21 and 45, so I did not qualify.

I sent the scheduler an email asking about this. She told me to apply through her.

Maybe you could do this.

40s doesn't seem as old as it did 20 years ago, does it?

Same with me, they let me do a "younger" clothing store for up to 45. Since I don't eat candy, my views are broader, mostly about age, as they definitely can do all, without limiting.,,When they need you, they lift the limits, so I'm not really disturbed, with our experience, their loss. I agree 40 doesn't seem as old as it did 20 years ago...smiling smiley I wouldn't go back, would you?

Me too, all the experience and learning is amazing, money can't buy it. I wish (for me) continued good health
and more of the same. I remember my 20's....oh my,no one knew anything and so naive, finding out who you are and being happy with it...delicious. I do miss the politeness we used to have, and respect....glad my daughter at 42 still has it.....

If I could retain the knowledge and wisdom of today, I'd jump back to 22 in a heartbeat!

Now scheduling travel shops for the day after Christmas through mid-January.

Knowledge and wisdom + flawless physical perfection = not a chance!

Problem being, you can't, but, it would be nice.

Just had a birthday and aged out for some gym shops. Just because I had a birthday does not mean I will not go to the gym anymore!
But now most of you are old enough to do those Medicare shops. See, there is always a bright side.
If old is 44 than I'm ancient at almost 60! My brother has a 14 year old and he's 54.

Planned baby as a matter of fact.

Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning; the devil shudders...And yells OH #%*+! SHE'S AWAKE!
At 48, I do Medicaire shops on behalf of my MIL. Age is not a factor for those.

This is ridiculous. I am 49 and look like I am in my 30's. I work out religiously and have a 12 year old. Why throw out those ridiculous age restrictions? I do squeeze in some treats here and there so I have done those candy store shops from time to time. My tween gets so happy. Same deal. I totally shop at young hip stores and wear a size 0 or 2 petite. They are being foolish to cut out experienced shoppers. I have been mystery shopping for at least 15+ years. I almost always get rated 10 or just about perfect on most all my shops too. I noticed that the cool, trendy jewelry shops disappeared fromonebof my old stand-by companies...I remember they had an age cut off of 45 I think. Sad.
Before I was a secret shopper I too used the love my rocking chair. When my kids hear what I do they told me I was off my rocker!
Being there are so many age restrictions on shops and most are not geared for senior citizens, does anyone tell a white lie about their date of birth? It would be easy to do if a tax ID number is used and not a Social Security number.
One thing that I did find completely ridiculous was getting too old to do an audit that I had done dozens of times. No mystery shop, nothing clandestine just go in and introduce yourself to the manager on duty and fill out a form showing what model product was at what location on the display. The scheduler did override the requirement when I complained but the fact that someone put that in the description in the first place was ridiculous.

A WHITE lie? Lorrie, is a WHITE LIE worse than a green lie or a black lie or a blue lie? How do you determine which color lie you are telling and how bad it is? A mystery shopper who lies compromises her ethics. And a person who compromises her ethics and lies about age would lie about other things. Of course that's just my opinion. We all have one.

I did not say I participate in this practice, but I once read a post by someone who did. I have already contacted a scheduler and told them I was over the maximum age, but I appeared younger and I was assigned the job. They may have been desperate!
I was thinking along those lines as well. The client gets to decide what demographic(s) they care about. I may think it's a bad decision, but it' THEIR decision.

And I just found out that I'm now "too old" to do dinner at the bar shops that I've done before. Yet when I'm traveling alone, which I often am, my favorite thing to do is have dinner at the bar. I'm alone when I start, but I generally have someone interesting to talk to pretty quickly.

(And I don't mean I'm picking up/being picked up by men. I'm generally talking to both men and women, and often couples, in a large range of ages.)

But one restaurant I shop doesn't want my feedback on eating at their bar. That's their prerogative, at least when they're hiring a shopper. I do reserve the right to eat at their bar on MY dime. *grin*
It's not illegal because we are not employees. As someone mentioned earlier they can set up a group anyway they want. If they want to study large men with beards that wear plaid shirts they can. I just wish they would do a study on employees in their 20s that are to busy texting to see you. Then actually get annoyed if they are asked to help you. I have loads of data on that.
I guess they want the shoppers to look like the average customer at their store, but I think they should rethink these age requirements. Shouldn't they be sending older folks into the store to find out what their experience is like so they can figure out how to encourage more older folks to shop there?

"Evolve thyself and lose all hate...." Orphaned Land
Weight Watchers leaders and receptionists have to weigh in every month and keep their weight in the target range. Seems like weight discrimination, but since part of the job description is to motivate by example, it makes sense. There must be loopholes in the discrimination laws for cases like these.
I find the clients that disallow seniors to shop are far and few compared to the ones that appreciate our experience. I do Ross stores constantly, along with Armani (which I'm doing Tuesday) Rodeo Dr. I've done
Chanel shops for the last 10 years. I have a background in clothes as my sister worked for Saks Fifth Ave-
San Francisco.for years. The help in these shops are older ladies having made Sales a career. Knowing well made clothes, which younger girls do not as everything today is made in China. We do bring years of knowledge to this industry. I see why the "young" shops want a younger demographic, i get it. There are still
plenty of stores where we are able to work. I from time to time see the age requirement, like the candy stores,
and am bewildered, who doesn't buy a good piece of dark chocolate, age requirement, please!! Someone on the thread mentioned, well, we can still do Medicare...haha. Most shoppers posting here I guess are in their 40's...Medicare shops run 55 and older. and come out now through the end of the year. I do them, but they are limiting. Bottom line, it is what it is. I wish some clients would broaden their minds and see experience is more important than a number. Now, I'm off to do Lazy boy, where this old broad can sit back and take a load of her feet......smiling smiley

A woman I went to high school with thought she had the stomach flu when she was 48. Now she has a 5 year old. Glad it wasn't me, LOL.
Janet Jackson is having her first child at 50, which some say is the new forty.....let's not be pigeon holed by ignorance. Being forty is so young, forties have it all, experience and youth......
