If you go to Stanton, don't take the first price they come up with. Wait till they make a third offer before you accept their price.
Site for Sore Eyes usually offers buy one frame, get the second 1/2 off. They sometimes have coupons in the mail and Livingsocial.com sometimes have the Site for Sore Eyes frames and glasses deals. Do you have a vision care plan through your employer? If you do, see what is allowed for your plan. I don't know if See Level offers eye glasses shops in your area. If they do, you can get some pricing information on frames and lenses while doing the shops. Some eye glasses stores have a special pricing for eye glasses.
There happens to be an ad over your post in my browser for a website called Zenni. It's online, but it looks legit. Reviews are pretty decent also.
I thought about getting glasses online but my problem would be getting the right type of frames that would fit my rounded shaped face and need nose pads for my small asian nose. When I was doing the eye glasses shops, I had tried on over 10 eye glasses frames. I have not gotten glasses online, but I'm thinking that they will provide some frames to try on and exchange them in the mail.
I received my new glasses yesterday. I went to Sam's Club. It wasn't the best deal, but better than most. The optical department gives a discount for members. I wear progressive bifocals, with transition lenses for every day work plus the a/r coating for nighttime driving.

Caveat, I did have some issues with the transition frames. The progressive was set higher in the transition pair as opposed to the sunglasses with the same frame. I stopped by my Dr. so they could check the prescription. My Dr., on his lunch took the time & we found out it might only be a fitting issue with the transition eyeglasses.

If I have big issues after tomorrows hike, I'll take them back and have them redone.

Another caveat, if you purchase glasses with a/r coating expect 1 1/2 weeks before your new eyeballs arrive.
