Your early MS days!

I started with IRI/Mosaic InfoForce in 1996 as a data collector. In addition to scanning in retailers, we also shopped electronics stores (EB!) and did a little merchandising and resets. I left them in 2003 for full time work but researched and found MS companies for extra income.

I did my first shop in the early-mid 1990s for Consumer Impressions after my mom by chance met a person who worked there and explained what they did, she told me so I called and signed up. They snail mailed a package of shops to be done for the next month. To change a date I think you just had to call, which was never an issue. The packages were mailed with return envelopes.
I haven't shopped for them since I moved out of the Dallas area in 1998, but I then did shops for Beyond Hello, Bare Int., and some others that in all honestly couldn't tell you how I found most of them (I think a scheduler at one of them knew someone at Consumer Impressions and they called me). I switched jobs in 2003 and cut way back on mystery shopping for a while. I picked back up again about a year ago.
Wow- nothing compared to a lot of the shoppers, but reading this made me realize I have been shopping for almost six years. I started when my position was eliminated at an organization I thought I would retire from. This was in January of 2011 and I just happened to get an email from Marketforce and started with them. The only thing that has really changed for me is my priorities. When I first started, I needed to mystery shop to make money and or feed my husband and myself. Then a year later when I got a new full time job, my priority was to just do fun things and take my hubby out to eat. Now due to an unfortunate accident last month, I am a widow (at 50yoa). I have done a few mystery shops I already had scheduled but don't know what my motivation will be now to continue mystery shopping.
grille, I am so sorry for your loss! My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Grille, condolences on your loss. I have friends who have been widowed at an early age with their lives turned upside down. Maybe you can use mystery shopping to keep yourself and your mind busy during this difficult grieving period. Sometimes just having your day filled helps : (...
