Question about a rejected apartment shop

I've got nothing to lose since I am not one of their shoppers...yet. If the MSC does indeed decide to acknowledge their error and pay the OP, I might just sign up with them. As for now, any time a new potentional shopper comes into the forum to research MSCs and clicks on Northwest Loss Prevention Consultants, this thread is going to populate and it might deter new shoppers from signing up. Don't give kudos to the owner just yet because they haven't come in the forum and neither has the OP to let us know the outcome.

I've worked with this particular MSC specializing in apartments (not EPMS) for the last couple of years and have not had any issues with rejections. However, I recently completed a targeted apartment shop which was rejected because I did not meet with the target on the appointment date. I'm just kind of venting because the shop had taken time and energy.

1.) Like most apartment shops, there were black out dates during the week. Basically all the dates except Monday and Saturday were blacked out. I scheduled my tour on a Monday with the leasing agent. The target leasing agent confirmed the appointment and said that "we'll" see you on [date of shop]. Naturally I assumed that I would be meeting with the leasing agent because she had confirmed the appointment and did not inform me that she would not be in the office. Also according to the shop guidelines, the leasing agent worked on Mondays as well.

2.) When I arrived for the appointment, the target agent was not in the office so I had to conduct the tour with another leasing agent.

I submitted the shop, but was it was rejected because:

1.) I shopped on a date that the leasing agent wasn't available. Apparently the leasing agent only worked on Saturday. However the guidelines did not state that, it included Monday as well. I also took a screenshot of the guidelines.

2.) I did not ask the targeted leasing agent directly during the phone call if she would be at the appointment. I had assumed that she would be at the appointment because she said that they would see me on the appointment date.

Well, my report was declined for those reasons. I contacted the owner with pretty thorough emails and have only received one or two sentence responses twice without much justification regarding the nonpayment issue. I also have left a voicemail which has not been returned. I feel slighted because I've worked with the company previously with good results, but he doesn't seem to care to answer all the points in my emails. I am just posting on the forum to ask what I should do. Was I wrong? Should I just drop the issue?
I would have said, "Okay Diana, I will see you at 3:00 on Monday. I will be meeting with you, correct?" At this point, Diana says, "No. I am off Mondays. Someone else will be helping you." (do not assume Diana will be there unless you ask) At this point, you still have Saturday. You say to Diana, "I would much rather meet with you. You say you will be there on Saturday? Great. I think that day works even better for me. Can we make this for Saturday? Great. I will see you on Saturday at 3:00 and look forward to meeting you."

If you DO this, then Diana has confirmed she works Saturday. You have made your appointment for Saturday. She said she will see you then.

Now, if Diana is a no show on Saturday (sick) then you arrive and they say Diana was sick and went home, so Mary is going to be your agent. At this point, you have done everything correctly and you will continue (if allowed) your shop with Mary. smiling smiley
Hi Sunny, while that's excellent advice if the shop is only allowed to be done on a Saturday, in this circumstance incorrect guidelines stated it was okay to shop the agent on a Monday and the agent was indeed there on a Monday. Had the OP known it was a Saturday only shop (she didn't find out until after the shop was rejected), I am sure that she would have found a way to do that.
Thanks everyone. I had not mentioned the company mainly because I had seen and worked with NWLPC on shops which have been accepted and I've had no issues with the owner. His posts on the forum have been well written and thought out. I just thought that this was a one-time thing.

As for further communication, I have not heard anything back from Doug. It's okay, it's a loss for me and he's not wavering from his point that I did not specifically ask the leasing consultant if she would be in on Monday. I thought she would because she had said that "we" would see you on Monday (that's usually the case).

I have lost confidence in working with the company because of the mistake in guidelines and lack of thoughtful responses from the owner. I don't know if I will be picking up any more shops at this time for them anymore.

Thanks Sunnydays. It seems that the particular response you've made would be the only way the shop would have been accepted.
