We have all had our own struggles....my little rant (and a garage style mystery shop associate)

Who knows the woman's motivation. I've had people who are not strangers make ignorant statements about my technology and relate it to toys. The bottom line, they don't get it. So if they are too stupid or unwilling to progress, it doesn't bother me a whit.

When people lash out like that about technology, maybe it's because they don't understand it and don't use it themselves. Could be insecurity? I mean, someone with that much technology might seem rather intelligent and sophisticated when they are using it in a work-related fashion, which could be intimidating to someone who doesn't know how to use it themselves.
I'm not even that tech savvy. My honey does all our IT stuff. I'm the kind of person who asks him how to turn the flash on on my new camera, or how to turn the sound on to sync up with my second monitor. I also have trouble setting up printers. Bwahahah. KISS is my best friend. Keep it simple, stupid. I have a lot of tech but it's set up to be fool proof for me and as easy peasy as can be...see. winking smiley I haven't had enough coffee yet.

I have a friend in Florida who still has a flip phone and won't touch his wife's computer, though he is intelligent enough to use the simple technology of today and can easily afford some newfangled stuff. I have to text his wife because he refuses to learn how to text and won't read the ones I send him. I have to send her photos so she can show him, and he won't even set up an email address so again, I either have to email her or just pick up the phone and call him. He's stubbborn like that. But, he would never try to make someone feel bad by throwing on some sort of superiority attitude about it.

And I know about not being too tech savvy, LOL. Technology these days is supposed to be simple. I just spent about 4 hours trying to figure out why my wireless Brother All-in-One decided to quit printing and scanning after 3 years of no problems. I did all of the usual things by rebooting the printer, rebooting the Internet, rebooting my computer, redownloading drivers, removing the printer from my device list and adding it back in, plugging in the printer, ARGGGH. I finally uninstalled it from my list of programs and removed any trace of it from my computer and started from scratch. It works now. A tech savvy person would have figured it out already. Mental note to self on what to do if this happens again...
Don't discount jealousy and a certain level of misogyny in the statement. And yes, even women can be misogynists. As much as it seems implausible at this stage in history, there are women who take issue with other women for doing what they deem to be a "man's job" or are jealous if they feel they did not have many choices in their own lives. She singled you out by gender. I have a feeling she would not have made the same comment to man.

What Lisa says is true. I've owned my home for 15 years and some of the older women cannot stand me. Granted, part of it is because, I have a personality that is a love it or leave it. But the majority is because, I own my home without a husband and I refuse to apologize for it.

I could tell them I had 2 husbands and why I don't want another one, but it's not their business. Let them cackle. Last I heard I'm the person paying my bills. When they want to pay my bills they can dictate my life.

My dad wouldn't let us get Cable TV when we were growing up so i only got to watch garbage tv when I was by my friend's house or grandparents house. I get it though, I had Cable TV for about a year when I was around 30 and couldn't justify the $1200/year it cost.
My Dad is 95 1/2 and the only person who can best him with computers is my niece who just turned 15.

He uses Facetime or Skype to talk with his sisters that are in their 90's. He's on Facebook and asked me what twitter was a couple a months ago.

We used Facetime while my brother was still in Korea. He talked to my brother, niece and/or sister in law almost everyday. He also used it when my brother was allowed to call from Iraq.'

My Dad grew up when listening to the stories on the radio was the only way you heard it. You went to the theater for the show and the news.

My family does have some old fashioned values. The women let the men sit at family dinners and we fill up their plates for them with whatever they want first and then fill up ours. I also do most of the cooking in my house, although he cooks up some nice meals. My grandma does all the cooking to this day, all the dishes, all the laundry, etc. And so does my mom. I find myself still doing this in my household and I almost balk at times when he starts washing MY DISHES and folding MY LAUNDRY and sweeping MY FLOORS bwahaha. Then I remember it's all okay if he pitches in and appreciate the help. Although we all pitched in and worked hard, there was still a sense of the women doing the sewing, cooking, and cleaning and the men doing the hunting, the working, and the eating. One of my aunts, my mom, and my grandmother have never "worked" a 9-5 but instead were homemakers while the men did/do the work. All five of my grandmothers granddaughters have 9-5's and various types of higher education. Some of those old values just stick with you. I find myself washing the laundry and forgetting I even washed it because it's ingrained. I still like to bake a pan of pone bread or a cake of biscuits to keep under a towel all the the time.

I showed my 78 year old grandpa my laptop and how you could watch videos and such on it. I even showed him Facetime while he was hospitalized for pneumonia and cardioaversion therapy. He thought that was just the craziest, most exciting thing and wanted me to keep calling people in our family so he could see them! They still have a rotary style land line phone and large button corded phones. There are times he's still learning to work a television remote winking smiley
Your memories, recollections and current viewpoints are SOOooooo interesting to read! This post is just another reason why I think you should contemplate writing a story/book about your upbringing and how it has served you well in your current life.
Earlier in the week my boyfriend asked if I had had a chance to do the laundry. He has to wear a business suit to work, tie optional. I apologized and told him that I had not gotten to it yet with work and shopping and offered to refresh and iron something for him. Turns out... I had at some point zombified washed and dried the laundry and had started ironing & folding it in the basket!

He told me that he never sees me do the laundry, but instead it was like our house had magic gnomes that somehow snuck around and did dishes, laundry, and bought household necessities and made our bed every day. I'm apparently magical and can make toothpaste, body wash, deodorant, and ketchup appear on command. I can also make trash, kitty litter, and clutter disappear without being seen tongue sticking out smiley

I think it was an age issue; there's nothing to suggest it was because she's female so I don't think it's a good idea to make that assumption. I could imagine an older guy saying that to a younger guy.
Sadly, that's just a man thing.
