Shop rejections--questions, not sharing a story

Hello! Before I found this forum (which I love finally being able to ask questions and talk about this business), I never really worried about seeing if my shop was accepted. I am wondering if it's common to have shops rejected? Am I lucky? Or are people who are worried tending to post on the forum?

Sooner or later, any active shopper will have the experience of having a shop rejected, either by missing a key element, or due to miscommunication. All new shoppers are nervous and some have hear some tall tales about shoppers being routinely cheated. So, we get lots of questions. The best solution is education, and that's what we are all about here.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Except me cause I'm perfect. winking smiley

Also consider we get a lot of one hit wonders who get a shop or shops rejected and create accounts here just to complain and then move on. It can sometime give the impression it's a bigger problem than it is. Rejected shops are part of business.

There are reasons that a body stays in motion
At the moment only demons come to mind
Rejected shops happen, probably more to newcomers, however there are companies out there that prey on
correctness in the report, are tough graders and I would say want you to "do it right" from day one. They will reject a shop for a mispelled word. Happy to say they are far and few between. I do agree some posters using an alias come to complain (even when it's their fault the job was rejected), they want to get even, then they disappear. When you get more experience you'll learn which companies to have relationships with, that are fair and everyone lives happily ever after (well almost)!!!

Sometimes we make errors which would result in a rejected shop and other times I have found that an MS company will contrive something to get out of paying, especially if it's a higher rate or well bonused. I have experienced both situations.

I shopped for probably 8 years before I had a shop rejected. It was one of those "I can do this shop blindfolded I've done it so many times" shops. Sure enough, I didn't bother looking over the guidelines that day, and lo and behold they had snuck in a change in the guidelines. Before that, it didn't have a specific time of day that the location had to be shopped, but for this particular visit, they changed it to being shopped before 2 pm. I visited at 3 pm and my shop was rejected. Of course I offered to reshop and all was well. Lesson learned. There have only been a couple of shops out of thousands of shops over the past 15 years that were rejected. Just keep reading your guidelines and stay in good communication with the MSC, as wales stated, and you have nothing to worry about. Like others posted, it's the one hit wonders who create a screen name only to come in here and vent...usually because they messed up and can't own up to it.

Oh really? What MSC's have been heard to go to that extreme?

I have had a shop thrown out with a 1 for a dealership ($17.00) with Intellishop, haven't worked for them since. Some Editors are that way, but I'm happy you've never experienced it Many other experienced shoppers have mentioned it as well on this thread.

I think there is a little bit of exaggeration going on here. A misspelled word might give you a lower score but I have never heard of a whole report being thrown out because of it. It would not be cost effective to the MSC or their client.

We'll never know as my email for an explanation was never answered, I couldn't find out why as many on their
thread have stated....as least I'm not alone with this company and that newer Editor. I worked for years for them even though they have the lowest pay, and maintained a 9/10 for years. I should have been given respect and gotten an email.......however one report in ten years, tells me I'm right in my appraisal of them.
I can send you my ratings...proof is in the pudding. I'd believe a seasoned shopper , but then I know where you come from....oh yes, have a good day!!!!!

Similar story here, too, JAS. I've been MSing since 2005, and had my first shop ever rejected by MF last Fall. TOTALLY my fault! I misunderstood one of the scenarios, and did it wrong...however, that same shop came up again the next month, I got it, did it, it was accepted, and I got paid! So yes, OP, we are ALL prone to have something go awry sooner or later!
Had my first one this week. Stupid mistake.. I missed the minimum time in the store. It's a shame because the store associate was PERFECT. I felt bad I screwed it up.
I had a pizza shop rejected because the pictures were not correct. Never did another one as the pizza was awful. In 5 years the only other shop I had rejected was totally my fault since I shopped the wrong location. I tend to stay away from the companies that pay slow or send back shops with multiple questions.
I thought I was going to have one rejected once for only being in a store for 10 minutes thought the guidelines say you need to be in the store at least 20 minutes. It was a retail shop you let the associate lead. The associate didn't ask the questions the guidelines wanted me to listen for, or recommend anything. And I was following my instructions to let them lead. So they were done in 10 minutes, and I thought it would be awkward for me to just be hanging out there for another 10 minutes doing nothing.
To comment on your question about worry, I have never checked to see if my shop was rejected. I always just assume I will get an email if there is an issue. And I always have. Occasionally if I happen to go on the msc website a day or so after doing a shop I will look to see if it was accepted yet. But I have never kept checking the website as many of the msc advise. I do check my email several times a day anyway.

Why on Earth would I want to see your ratings? I honestly could care less if you got a 1 or a 10. That is your business. Seasoned shoppers make mistakes also. Learn from your mistakes and improve the next time.

You know where I come from? Are you stalking me once again? I think it is time for you to find a new obsession. Peace out!

ETA: Whatever happened to toggling me which you have stated on numerous occasions.

Happens often. Just makes me angry and say something to the company. They don't care. If you persist with asking for the payment even for a few bucks, they ban you. I and numerous shoppers I know had the same bad experiences.

Can you tell us which company you are referring to. Many of us have not had this problem and it would help to get feedback on others experience if we know what you are talking about.
I had MF reject one last week because I uploaded photos that were too small--they resized when I moved them to my computer and I didn't notice-- I immediately pointed out I had the originals and could resubmit it in 2 minutes but they weren't interested and told me to take a flying leap.

Given how poorly MF pays and how few shops they have these days, I think I can fill in gaps in my schedule elsewhere.

But that was the first in years.
One shop was rejected for me because the recorded call had noise on their side. Clearly not many people want to do those because they sit for months now. I still had to write a lengthy and detailed report. The second one was rejected because I forgot to order a second drink that's not water.
Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences. It has really helped me understand more of what's happening. smiling smiley
I had one recently. It was a phone call shop. The guy on the other end pretended like he couldn't hear me at the end of the call even though you could hear both him and me talking on the recording. They excluded it. Good thing it was only $5.

That seems frustrating. Hopefully that guy who didn't want to talk learned that is not the way to do his job!
I've never had one rejected, knock on wood but......I can count on one hand the one's I've messed up on. Shopping the wrong location, shopping during the incorrect time frame, not cutting the pizza right (knew it but said screw it). I think a total of 5 shops?

How did those shops not get rejected? You are lucky, maybe you are just "madetoshop" and they know it, LOL.

I'm the same as Madetoshop- but it may include some fingers on my other hand and maybe even my toes... I've been shopping almost a decade and it's bound to happen once or twice a year when I miss a guideline or visit at the wrong timeframe...but then again, why else would a shop be rejected if it didn't stem from me messing up?

JAS, clarification. I was reading this thread as rejected but thinking that they should not be. I submitted two....one for the wrong time frame and one with the incorrect pizza cutting. Both rejected. Both messed up due to my error, so REJECTED. The other ones, I knew I messed up before submission - Re-shopped, LOL!
