Well, probably not!

I am getting scheduler emails for shops to be done on January 20 and 21, between 11 AM and 2 PM. Sorry, but ALL of the addresses on these urgent shops are inside the security perimeter for the inauguration on the 20th and huge demonstrations that have permits (and a closed security perimeter, not to mention some un-permitted counter demonstrations by bikers who have publicly vowed to come armed!) for those hours on the 21st. No vehicular traffic and no public transit inside the perimeter on either day. On the 20th, only ticketed attendees will be permitted inside most of the security perimeter.

What were clients/ MSCs/schedulers thinking when they set dates and places for these shops?

I think there is the answer!
Or maybe the want to see how busy the businesses are during the inauguration?

I hope they pay well for the walk! lol

Many businesses inside the security perimeter will close once the total street shut down area goes into effect at 3 AM Thursday in parts of the city. Hotel guests who arrive by car at some hotels will be told not to expect to be able to depart by car until late Saturday afternoon, at the earliest. Also, not, buses, taxis, Uber, etc. inside the Red Zone.

There is reported to be a violent group that will set off poisonous gas or some type of destruction. I say PASS on that job!
wales, I don't think they fully understand what's going on on Friday. I work in the perimeter. We are off Thursday and Friday. Thursday, because the lockdown is being done early, and Friday due to the inauguration. The police (I don't know from what agency) will turn away anyone trying to enter who is not supposed to be there.

Poor management by the MSC's I would guess. I am pretty sure most of the clients would prefer and/or consider this coming Friday thru Sunday, in DC and very local areas, to be treated like a Holiday with no shops allowed. There are traffic warnings all through MoCo, NoVa, etc already in place.

I did a shop in Howard County on Monday. The warnings were up there advising people to take the metro.

Too funny! I was also doing shops in Howard County on Monday and saw the same sign (very likely anyways). We probably crossed paths.

Sunny,
I think you are seeing fake news.

Yeah, that won't happen.

I've been seeing lots of ads which are supposedly giving away free inauguration tickets (the ads were funded by someone official).

If the bonuses are high enough, you should look into how to get the free tickets and do the shops instead. LOL. smiling smiley
Most businesses inside the zone that requires tickets for entry will be closed up tight. That is National Park Service or Capitol Police turf and they do not mess around!

wales, I'm working today and it's pretty quiet for downtown DC. A lot of people here took off since it's a short week. Some businesses have signs up that they will be closed tomorrow and Friday.

Yes, many businesses told their workers to work from home all week, with, of course, Monday off for the holiday. I was in the center city Tuesday morning and rush hour traffic was exceptionally light. Some early events start at dusk today.

I'm guessing that every shop in a given chain has the same due date, and the schedulers don't bother to check locations before they send out emails.

After some back and forth one scheduler told me that they had all month to get these assigned and done by 1/22 but just started offering them 2 days ago. If you scheduled a particular geographic area every month, wouldn't you try to learn something about local holidays, extreme weather events, etc?

*I* certainly would try to learn about the area (as I suspect you would too), but based on some of the contacts I get from schedulers we're exceptions.

Sooooo, what did they learn, then, about procrastination?
But this one's a no brainer. Someone would have to live under a rock with no TV, no magazines, no internet, no newspapers, etc. to not know WHEN and WHERE the inaugural events are happening.
I think that most people have no idea how much of the city has to be closed down for even the State of the Union address, much less 3-4 days of inauguration activities.

Btw, the only gas at last night's protest was used by the police. (pepper spray)

I didn't realize parts of the city shut down for the State of the Union address.

Security is very high when all of congress, the SCOTUS, the President, Vice-President and all but one Cabinet member are all in one place! And, their routes to the Capitol, of course, are heavily guarded when so many are enroute at the same time.

Wow. That is a lot of power under one roof. That makes sense now.

Right now an estimated 28,000 security personnel are on duty near the Capitol, White House and the National Mall. and that's just the official number.

Away from The Red Zone, there is almost no traffic. So, I am off to do six parking shops on a large university hospital campus. The 10 shops that I have left in the Red Zone this month will get done next week.
