Yes, it is. I've never done a shop for them. Avoid solely because of the company, or because this kind of shop is undesirable?
I have had great luck recently with Certified and have doing trailer checks for the last few months. They were no trouble at all and I was paid within 30 days. I am now on a rotation and do them fairly regularly. But I understand what everyone else is saying. I was re-instated with Certified only this year. They cut me off without warning a few years back.
This might be a silly question, but do you actually get to see the movie? :-) The shop I saw said you had to cover ALL screens of "Insert Name Here" movie showing that evening. In that case, I think I'd avoid doing a theatre with multiple screens! I mean, do they expect you to stay the entire night??!
I have not had any negative experiences with this company. The people who do my area are nice, they seem to have few shoppers here, and they have few jobs here. Of what they have, I am extremely choosy about what I will do, and only do a select few. I may live to be burned yet, but so far, no issues.

Enough others have issues that I would only do a job at a time, make sure to download paperwork instantly (or as soon as available) and do not be late or miss your shop entirely, even if you are run over by a car (see other's experiences on older threads here for why I say that.)

No seeing the movie is not usually an option, especially when you are moving from screen to screen. The most screens I have had to check for one movie was three and there was plenty of time in between. It was also located in a mall so I was able to complete some other shops as well. If not in a mall, I just bring a book and enjoy my time away. When Despicable Me came out, I did the trailer check on the first screen and my husband and kids came to the theater for the second screen and bought me a ticket. I just slipped out for a few minutes to verify the trailers with management.
It depends. I don't do the multi-screen ones. The manager will usually let you stay, here at least.

Most of the managers have offered to let me stay as well. I usually have other jobs to get to though. This week I have two jobs with two different MSCs where I actually am supposed to watch a movie of my choice. I am evaluating staff in different areas at both locations, but two movies in one week and I get paid on top of it. Yahoo!!!! I hardly get to watch two movies in a year much less a week.
I love those. That was one of the one I always did here for Certified, but the theatre they did that for closed over a year ago.

Oh, fitey. I know the company you're talking about. I did one when they first got the client, but the only ones I've been offered since have been in another state!

Edited: Just realized you said 2 companies. Not sure, but I think I may know the other one, too. Saw a shop come up just a few days ago, but there wasn't anything in the theatre I wanted to see. Even when it's free, I'm picky!

Hadn't thought about what I would be watching....just that I was going to get to see a movie. HMMMM. Now I have to pick some movies. This may prove to be far more difficult than I originally anticipated.
I've done a couple of those movies this month, and hubby went with me and shared the popcorn and coke. He thought it was great as I won't spend the money to go to the movies, but since I was getting paid for it, I sprung for him a ticket.
I do trailer checks. I like them. Ilkike to do more. I haven;t done and open checks yet.

Most trailer check consist of an audience reaction, patrons count----Male or female with age group, and the reaction to a specific upcoming movie trailer.

One of the movie theater in my area has 18 screens. Just b/c it a multi screens theatre, can means different movies are shown on each screen. Sometimes the featured film is shown on only one screen or on a couple different screens.

Its the hula that goes with the movie. For example, SALT was partially filmed in my town. As part of the films credit, one MSC was offering trailers checks for SALT in the late morning and early afternoon showing. Another theater across town wanted Shoppers for trailer checks on ANY SHOWTIME after 630pm. I look for the words, “Any show time after 600pm or evening”. They pay more.

SALT was playing on 3 screens. The specific trailer I was looking for was only on one screen. My instructions were to record on the audience reaction to the trailers and pay special attention to the reaction for the Special trailer.

Usually one movie is beginning in one theater as it is ending in another. The showing that began at 4:00 and 5:30 is nearing the end. Your scheduled 6:40 showing will begin soon. Your wait time is no more than 45 minutes b/c the theater personnel has to “clean the auditorium”.

I start looking for trailer checks on Wednesdays, if it has a Friday release, or early Friday morning.

Do I stay and see the featured film? Yes, when my shop is over. Then I go home, report and submit.
Has anyone else ever noticed that the "log out" tab on Certified's site is about 1/4" above the "Remove Me," tab. Coincidence or destiny? LOL
Yes, I have noticed the position of the tabs. I have thought about asking them to rearrange them.

I did a movie check tonight. The main thing you have to do is just get all the information needed. I had one screen so the payment isn't great. I always ask how the movie is rated. Just because I've heard of it doesn't mean it's a family movie. That's all I'll see.

I've had some problems with Certified, but I stay with them. They have frequent assignments of all kinds, not just movies. There is also mystery shopping as well as merchandising. The pay is low. Volume makes up for it. On the merchandising side, I think they require that I print off too much paperwork, sometimes 20 pages for a half-hour job. I go through too much paper and too many toner cartridges. I'm looking for ways to cut back on printing.
I was interested in doing them but I was confused as to the exact method. What threw me off was the multiple screen theaters and the phrase all screens must be checked. I kept thinking about a big hit movie that might be playing in 2-3 auditoriums simultaneously and 2-3 different auditoriums later in day and in yet different auditoriums in the evening. Maybe if I had a clearer understanding of the process.

Love trailer checking and have been doing them for probably 6 years. Have one company who I pretty much work for every week. So I keep my Friday's in reserve for them. Wonderful when I can get assigned for two companies for the same movie or theatre. Last week I covered Dinner for Schmucks for two companies plus a double assignment for one of the companies. So paid 3 times to watch one movie. This particular one was a perfect presentation so it was necessary to actually watch the movie. Normally I always have to for new Disney movies. I have taken somebody with me just about every week. We both watch the movie and the theatre employees sometimes ask me how the movie is, if there were problems, etc.

Even if they are simultaneously, they each have a different start and stop time. "All screens must be check' refers to the screen where Your featured movie is being shown.

Generally one has a time to be at the theatre. "All EVENING shows" means, all presentation of the featured movie shown after 600pm. If one arrives at the movies house at 545p and the instructions says----record the trailers for the film showing at 0640." Even though there is a film starting at 555 and another at 615, you are not allowed to do your shop until the time on your instructions indicates. "record all trailers on all screens shown prior to the assigned feature. Simple assignment!"

I think the time specified is when that particular trailer is going to be aired. If you are in the wrong time movie, you will miss the auditorium reaction. There is no sure guantanee that the "trailer" will be shown again in the other viewing of the features.

Multi screen theatres means just that. They have more than one screen to show a movie. Also one can get the film showing itinerary from the Manager. It tells the time and the screens in which Your fearured film is playing. Plus ask the manager if your trailer will be played.
Well here another clarification needed. An assignment I saw says you must enter your report online immediately upon completion. Does this mean I have to find a wifi hotspot close to the theater, have a cellular broadband device or can I wait until I get home?
Charlie
I haven't done those but yes, I believe you are to find a phone and call in your results immediately.
Here's what it actually says with the company name blanked out.
YOU MUST DATA ENTER YOUR RESULTS ONLINE AT WWW.**************.COM IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF YOUR CHECK!
Seems like that implies that a phone in is not good enough.
I always went home and typed them in. But I only live a couple of miles from the theatres.

Depending on the assignment I have called from the lobby of the theater with my results or I have gone home and entered them on the computer. No complaints from them or me.
I emailed the company for clarification. I also asked them if I could stay and see the movie because of their statement about "immediate" reporting. I'm probably being overly cautious but sometime a gray area can lead to no pay area.
Certified never answers the phone even though their instructions stress calling in immediately after the traielr check.

I stay for the film and enter the data online later, or go across the street to the library, eat lunch, and come back in to see the movie of my own choice later.

Once the staff gets to know you well, they could care less about you sitting in an empty theater on a weekday afternoon...
The theater in question has three screens. The instructions say two screens must be checked and that you must be there 20 minutes before the scheduled start time.
All three screens start at the same time and continue on that schedule all day.
2:00, 4:15, 7:00 and 9:15. So the way I see it I would have to be there 20 minutes before the start of the 2:00 shows for one screen and be there again 20 min before the 4:15 show for the second screen. Then if I stayed for the second movie I would be getting home at around 7pm and then enter the reports. Pretty long day for what's being paid. I guess if you really wanted to see the movies in question that would be a benefit.
That can be a pretty typical day for this kind of assignment. I generally avoid those type, the blockbuster openings where its on multiple screens. I prefer other types of theater checks, but they are not as prevalent.
