LOL at gas bonus

Just got off the phone with a scheduler. Asks if I can do a shop that is regularly 10 but is willing to bonus if I can complete it today up to 12 dollars. I am thinking it is a location I am going to be nearby so ask a question and then she says it is the location in X-town.

I say but that is over 200 miles round trip. She states she didn't realize it was that far and will talk to her supervisor about getting a mileage bonus for me. Since I am going to a family event about 25 miles from there tomorrow, I keep my mouth shut about that, but ask her to check just too see what they are offering.

After waiting on hold, she comes back on. She says that since I am such a valuable mystery shopper who has done such quality reports they are able to give me a bonus for the extra time and mileage. She then announces that they can give me an extra $3. WOOO HOOO!!! Think I'll throw a party with all the money. Oh wait, my car doesn't get 200 miles to the gallon.

Did she manage to get it out with a straight face?
Sounds like the same thing I am getting with gas bonus. I am told they are at the end of the period and need to get it done ask me what it would take. They are going to call me back. Have not heard from them. All calls go to voice mail with no return call. The shops go undone and if someone else takes them that is OK too. If I got what I asked for I would only break even when it all boils down to it.
Good grief. Reading your post, Shelly, I was thinking you were playing it just right and would land at least a few bucks over break-even.

It's funny - almost.
I was hoping I would get to what my cut off is for 20 miles out of the way and then maybe look and see if there was anything else nearby.

I don't get how they can even come close to saying $3 is worth it for what would be 7-8 gallons of gas and 4 hours of driving.

This is when it is good to be an independent contractor with the freedom to just say no.
It wouldn't be worth $3 extra even if my can ran on natural gas and I took a gas can. The milage would just pile up on my car and the ride would be a long one for no money.
Mine is not Market Force, I don't know who Shelly's is. I just took a wild guess and I could have missed it. My folks never called me back so I don't know how much they are offering.
Even though Certified doesn't do gas shops, that sounds a lot like their tactics. They have the most laughable bonuses in the industry.
I was thinking Maritz. They have called me to a go a city that would a 3 hour round trip and is in another state for $1 bonus. Yes, a $1 bonus.
You were thinking right. They never gave me a figure just asked me what it would take for me to do several. I figured they did not call back because they knew they could not match what it would take for me to do it.

It is hot and dry and I can wait. If we come to an agreement I will help them out but if we do not agree then I am not going to feel guilty.
Did you notice that when you tell them no after they have called & asked you to take some shop in the boonies for a laughable pay, they say in this weary tone, 'Well, I was hoping you could help us out, but...." After the third time I got that exact same sentence, I figured out the guilt trip and now I cheerily say "Sorry!" without feeling bad!

They wasted $3.00 of your time on the phone.

I don't do this job to "help them out" or be a hero" at my own expense.

Man, Maritz has changed. When they had the red-sign shops, I was auto assigned every month for a bonus. And I remember when I would have all month to do the shop, so when a cluster of 5 about two hours from my home coincided with shops with another MSP to make a route, off I would go! I did not need near as a high a bonus for these boondock locations because I had all month to do them instead of a last minute scramble.
