How Do You Like The 'Biz'?

I've been off & on with merchandising for a few years now,I like the flexibility and the pay most times, but the commuting kills me.
How about you?

I don't do merchandising but I like the flexibility also of mystery shopping. I also find I am able to be selective and am paid fairly well too. I am back at school full-time so the flexibility is the big thing for me.
I try to only do merchandising that is either within 10 miles of my house, or has a drive time / mileage component. I just did a 288 mile merchandising route on Wednesday that paid me more in drive time than the actual work. I love those kind of jobs, but, I love driving. I usually accept the odd jobs that companies don't have people already in place in those areas. They pay better, and will work with you on drive time/ mileage. I never accept work in large cities. I can drive and do two or three small towns in the time it would take to just get across some large cities in traffic. That is why I don't ever accept work in Chicago anymore. You people that work down there are truly road warriors! I feel for you, I've been in three 4 hour commutes from the Loop to the state line (WI). Yikes!
I wouldn't make enough off of mystery shopping,I find what they pay barely covers my commute etc. And I am in a large city so yes driving can be a pain no matter what. I have been looking back at jobs from a stationary location nearby etc,but being that the majority of my experience recently has been in merchandising that may be easier said than done.
Joe, I work for several merchandising companies, all at stores within 2 miles of my home, except for one that sends me to two nearest counties on a regular (monthly) basis. One of the companies pays very well.
I've just tried out merchandising this past couple of months and already had one cettie-adventure involving a cardboard baler and a forklift. My route puts out movies in grocery stores each month and covers an area app 60 miles wide. Still figuring out if this is for me or not.
