Okay, now they've REALLY torqued me up!!!

I keep running across articles that people post on Facebook because they believe them to be true. I often find myself commenting something like "The Onion is a satirical website - the story is totally made up".

Today someone posted an article claiming that George Zimmerman was arrested in Ferguson for following and then pointing a handgun at two black male teenagers. They further went on to say that Zimmerman also had several firearms and assorted knives in his car. The comments after the article had people so furious they were arguing 10x worse than anything you'd read here. I posted a comment that stated, "... {this} is a satirical website and this article is a work of fiction." The rat bastards deleted my comment! Why? Is that what they were going for - to purposely get people all upset and start attacking each other?

From what I understand, they used to have pseudo disclaimer on their website explaining it was satire, but now it's gone. I hope someday they are made to pay in some way for all the trouble they are causing.

Rant over.

I'm trying to look at it from their standpoint. What if you went to a magic show, and started saying, out loud, things like--"There are really two women in that box. He distracted us, and that's when he changed the picture. The magician planted that person who just came up on stage. She isn't a real audience member." I realize that it isn't the same thing.
So you, LJ, who has promised to "Protect and Serve ALL" is giving up after what can barely be described as a rant? Please tell me it isn't so. smiling smiley

Oh my gosh, I could not agree with you more. People believe anything and everything they read online and will post and rant about it. I sh*t you not, Google this: there is a picture and story about Steven Spielberg killing a dinosaur, with a picture of a dead dinosaur behind him. People are like "I can't believe he would do such a cruel thing!" People are very gullible.
Aha, maybe that's why those scumbags in Nigeria are still in business.

I saw that about Spielberg and the dead dinosaur and thought the story about people believing it was just a joke. Imagine my surprise.

Obviously, the gene pool needs more chlorine.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I do understand what you're saying Ishmael, and you're right. However, I also believe they can write satire and do it responsibly. While I do believe in the first amendment, this type of "reporting" equates to the proverbial yelling fire in a move theater, IMHO.

Bearclaw, I don't doubt your story one bit. Some of the stuff I've seen just has me SMH.

O.o o.O

Happily shopping New England and beyond!!!!!
The average public gets their "news" from FB and Fox News. Sad, but true. They've been conditioned to blindly accept what they're told, regardless of how idiotic it is. Common sense isn't so common anymore.

And these people are allowed to vote and sit on juries. And raise babies. How frightening is that?

... and don't forget HLN, Bbird. You know what would be refreshing? Unbiased reporting. Never gonna happen, but wouldn't it be nice? I can dream, can't I? Now, you have to listen to HLN then the Blaze or Fox and then slide your BS slider to the middle to find some semblance of truth.

I'd rather be shot than watch Fox News, the Republican station...what's wrong with CNN.

Live consciously....
