I never ever will.

I never ever could.

I didn't live through Pearl Harbor, but Dad & Uncle Jerry did. Uncle Jerry was old enough that he went to war after that.

So I will never forget that, either.

I will never forget the events of 9/11. I remember every single detail. The sky, the news, the radio, what I was thinking, how I was feeling, how I explained the day to my children who were 10 and 11 years old at the time. So many emotions, horrifying realities and not knowing if the tragedy was over and how I intended on keeping my family together and safe if it wasn't.

This morning before school, my daughter, Peep and I lit a candle in memory of that day, the people, the strength of our Country and the freedom that we have today.

I often slip things in during the year as we watch movies and the news, Peep will ask me questions and I will explain as best I can to a 5 year old without terrifying her as to the evil that remains in parts of the world.

This morning I found she was listening.

She asked me if this was the same as the Pearl Harbor candle we lite for the soldiers on the boats... You see... we watched Pearl Harbor the movie and I explained to her, in a 5 year old way, what was happening, (redirecting to the heroes' in the movie, again, so not to terrify her.)

She will, one day, learn of the seriousness of the events on both of those days but for now she just knows the compassion of praying for soles and (I tell her) that we should never forget.

I will never forget... God Bless America!!!

O.o o.O

Happily shopping New England and beyond!!!!!
Too depressing to relive, but hubby lived through Pearl Harbor (too young to serve) and equates the two events very strongly. He still won't consider a Japanese car. He's been watching the documentaries all day. What it did to the fire fighters and police gets me the hardest.
I was in school. I'd just moved to PA from MS. The first we knew something was wrong was hearing/seeing parents run down the hallways and into classrooms, pulling their kids out, crying and hugging them and saying things like bombs, airplanes, terrorists. After the first few, we knew something was really wrong. An announcement came over the speaker for teachers to turn on the news in their classrooms. We just stood there and watched. I remember feeling scared and helpless, and feeling helpless made me feel angry.

I was on maternity leave with my first son. Especially being home instead of work, I watched as it unfolded for days. I held him for five days straight, with a completely irrational fear that something would happen to him if I left him for a moment.

I will NEVER forget.
I missed my train to work by 2 seconds. I was suppose to be starting a new client in the towers that morning and meeting friends for the resturant fair that was to be held during lunch. I lost some really awesome friends that day. I got to see some people buckle under the strain of the event and other rise above it with non-stop courage and dedication.

For a myriad of reasons that are like glass on bleeding feet, I will never forget. I will never stop mourning those that were lost. It is a shame what happened and what is happening now. The reasoning will always baffle me.

one final note: at Pearl Harbor they knew it was going to happen. They knew with this event as well...

Just lost trying to find a fire pit in a concrete jungle wishing it was a wooded glen...

if it wasn't for bad luck, I would have no luck at all
