Well there goes my shopping time

My boss called me and wants me to work overtime on my days off, but he doesn't know which days off. Hard to schedule a shop that way. Sometimes security work sucks.

It may suck, but isn't time-and-a-half better than any shop?

It depends on the shop. I actually made more from Maritz in a day than I did working overtime. Plus these are not the best areas I will be working in and the customer dosn't want armed people and I can't wear my vest as it looks too hostile to wear a Kevlar vest (Cost me $700) I even bought an external carrier that looks like a shirt (like the police are starting to wear, an external vest is more comfortable than a vest under the shirt)
Yes, external is much more comfortable - by a long shot. (No pun intended.) However, will your company allow you to wear the external one? Wearing a uniform without a vest can be very dangerous. You may be unarmed at this site, but you're still a target if you're in uniform. What color is your uniform? A lot of the dark ones look an awful lot like law enforcement which can make you even a bigger target. At least G4S doesn't look as much like LEOs (although they could be mistaken for Florida state troopers).

Myster shopping and being your own boss beats having a boss most of the time, even when you have a good boss. I know some of you on this forum shop fulltime. I would love to do that when my last child goes to college. Still need to be home on a regular basis.
Some things are best but are very hard. I can think of three just off the top of my head: home ownership, natural childbirth and self employment.
