Reluctance to edit posts?

I have noticed that some posters say that they didn't edit thier posts when errors were found because they did not want the post to show up as having been edited.
I have never heard of this before, and often edit my own posts when I notice typos later. Does the fact that a post shows as having been edited have some significance that I am unaware of, and if so, what, please?

Generally it is a non issue. But there have been situations where posts have been edited in an attempt to CYA after having presented something noxious. Generally I look over posts before I submit and if, once posted, it reads wrong, I am likely to change it immediately. But if I am going back to an old post I am likely to note "Edited to add that ____"

I often edit to correct misspellings and left out words, and rarely put why it was edited in that case. But in the past, there have been some instances where things where edited after the fact (read as: after people got up in arms about the posts) to make the poster look less evil, and these edits are rarely attributed. These are the kind people have objected to, not simple edits.

I edit mine whenever I see a typo. I didn't realize people noticed those things. I tend to be a little sloppy in forums because I spend so much time being careful everywhere else.
Also, sometimes I type something that I mean a certain way -- then after I read it I realize it sounds completely different than my intent. In my head, with my inflection it seems fine -- on paper where it's just flat words -- not so much. If I can fix it quick before anyone has read it I will. Otherwise, I usually just let it go and hope people get it.

I edit mine all the time. My philosophy is, "If it ain't broke, I'll fix it 'til it is."
