Cats are Better Than Dogs Because:

Do you happen to have an expensive wood sleigh bed with bite marks?

Hahaha! Bite marks? Naw.

Now, if you asked if a rather large portion of the foot of our expensive wood sleigh bed was chewed to a pulp by Cassie, (the first of our foster dogs) I would say "bingo!". We were actually quite impressed with the amount of damage she could do in just a few minutes of unsupervised play. Thankfully, Cassie was adopted the following weekend, so we still have the dressers and night stands intact. smiling smiley

Did you ever check with the new owners to see how their furniture is doing? smiling smiley

My gray cat Jasper is an excellent mouser. Better yet, he brings me dead moles (puts them just outside the door, thank goodness) which tear up our yard.

My black cat La-La knows when I'm sick. She's normally standoffish, but when I'm not feeling well she does not leave my side. She'll even follow me into the bathroom.
The only bad things about cats are hairballs and cat urine. "Nature's Miracle" spray is my friend smiling smiley
I buy Nature's Miracle by the gallon. Sigh. I had males that were competing for territory. I recently rehomed one of them to stop it and now I have to go through and treat all the places they each tried to claim. I bought four gallons of the stuff when it was on sale recently.

(The dogs usually clean up the hairballs if I don't find them first. Dogs are so gross... but useful.)

Is "Jasper" to cat owners' what "Max" or "Buddy" is to dog owners?

@kimmiemae: No, I was too busy repairing our expensive wood sleigh bed. Actually, the only thing the new-owners-to-be were concerned about was if she jumped up on the furniture. I suspect you probably think I should have responded, "No, she just eats it", but it didn't occur to me. Cassie and I had just walked through the back door of the shelter, they saw her; it was love at first sight; and they adopted her. I was almost speechless!

My cat, who we put to sleep because of progressive cancer, never scratched me but she did damage a couple of my designer handbags and my antique chair during her illness. But I will always remember her for all the endorphins she had caused me to release when she sought for my attention.

My friend has a dog and many times, her job was affected because he developed a separation anxiety that made him damage her furniture when left alone.
i have to walk my cat to find the right spot..carrying the bag to clean up after him.....he does have a box..but was homeless a couple times before I got him and was used to being out...he's been so cooped up this winter he started refusing to go unless i stood over him in the litter box and commanded him to pee..
How sad.

Jmitw, google the "purrfect cat fence" and see if you can build him an enclosure so he can go out. I put one up for my cats and they've been a lot happier now that they can safely be outdoor cats when they want. That particular fence was not cheap -- $1000 (a friend paid for most of it, bless him) -- but if you study the design you might be able to do something on your own. Even if it's just a 10x10 enclosure it would probably help your kitty.

Right now cats are better than dogs because cats don't eat cat litter, get a wad of it plastered to the roof of their mouth, and drool all over the place until their owner finally gets their mouth washed out enough with a turkey baster to see that they're not choking, they've just got "cat litter paste" plastered to their hard palate.

Yes, that's how I spent 20 minutes about a half hour ago, swilling the new dog's mouth out with a turkey baster thinking I was washing a wad of it out of her throat before I realized she was grimacing trying to get it off the roof of her mouth with her tongue.

(On the other hand, dogs are better than cats because if I had to do that to a cat it would have bitten and scratched me until I needed to go to the emergency room. Molly let me pry her mouth open and shove paper towels and the baster in there and my hand at the end without any protest, growling, or offering to bite or even push me away. She knew I was trying to help her.)

I don't know. When I went to adopt Jasper he just looked like a Jasper. I don't know how common that is to name a cat. His sister's name is Daisy.

"love at first sight." awwwww.

Even though dogs are generally regarded as good watch dogs, Jasper will tell me if someone is here. Usually by scurrying under the bed. But at least I know someone is there.

How would you like to be the owner of Grumpy Cat? She is owned by a former waitress, now a millionaire.

I commented in the veterinary office that a woman's cat has an expression like Grumpy Cat. The woman was offended and denied that her cat looked like that. ???? It was just a comment.

He was originally named "Gabby" (named after Gabby Douglas, the gymnast), until the vet confirmed that she was actually a he! I then named him Jasper because he looks just like Tom from Tom & Jerry. I've always loved that name for a cat, but have only known one other person who named their cat Jasper.

My husband's friend recently had a baby and they named their child Jasper. To me that just sounds like an odd name for a child.

Huh? Is Tom's name supposed to be Jasper? I watch those cartoons all the time and I've never seen him called anything but Tom.

(Yes, "watch" as in present tense. I still enjoy cartoons now and then. Boomerang is one of my favorite channels.)

According to Wikia, Tom's original name was Jasper: [tomandjerry.wikia.com]

I'm glad they switched it to Tom. Though I like the name Jasper, Jasper and Jerry doesn't have the ring to it as Tom and Jerry.

I have 2 cats. One would go after a mouse. The other one would sit there and wonder what just ran by so fast.

Cats are born with a hunting and chasing instinct, but killing and eating prey are generally learned behaviors. Kittens learn from their mother to kill to eat.

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. Eleanor Roosevelt
Si and Am from Lady and The Tramp. And I remember Puss in Boots from way before Shrek although he wasn't near as interesting until he was voiced by Antonio Banderaswinking smiley

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
And how about Bast, the Egyptian cat goddess?

Cats are dignified. They would never be caught with their heads out the window, their tongues hanging out as they send slobber to the windshield of the car behind them.

Wish I could remember the name of that cat on Sabrina. He was my favorite character in that show. I didn't think any of the humans could act.
