I am in So. CA, and yes, there are many jobs here. Read this forum
and register with many companies...a couple I recommend are Bare Int'l,
Service Check, it will depend on the type of jobs you want and like. Most are chains and have jobs throughout CA.

I don't know that anyone in your county will be stepping up to share their 'work product' of companies they have researched out to work with. I'm sitting on the other side of the country so would have no idea.

What is fair to suggest is that you sign up with the basic companies that have jobs everywhere in the country: Market Force (blue portal), Bare International, Corporate Research International and Maritz. These are not the companies that pay the best but they are companies that offer work anywhere in the country that fast food is served or postage stamps sold or gas stations dispense fuel. They are a good place to start while you hone your observation skills because they have good instructions for what they need from you and to a great extent these can be generalized later to other work with other companies.

Once you have your feet wet with a few shops, sign up at Jobslinger.com where you can see what companies have recently had shops in your area. Most of the postings you see will have been taken already by other shoppers but those same shops are likely to be performed in coming months by the same companies so you will be signed up and ready.
She doesn't step on my toes, as Orange county is of itself out of L.A. County.
Flash's advice is good, but since you asked, I wanted to throw out a couple companies I know have jobs in all area of CA. I would never recommend MarketForce, Maritz or Cori..all are low paying and a PITA.

Live consciously....
I started with all the companies that Flash recommended. And yep, the are low-paying and a PITA but provided good experience. I am not in SoCal (will be visiting in December, to see my son). If I find any MSCs with work in the LA area, I will let you know. I will also let anyone in the Staunton VA area know of the companies I work with. Many of them have rotations and I can't shop some of my favorites anyway. I am happy to pay it forward. Some of them are fast food shops and I have had more than enough of these for a while.
I love CORI, but that might be because of my more rural location. They seem to bonus quickly here. I found a $50 shop and was able to pick up 4 other shops along the way to take me to just over $100 for 3.5 hours work. A couple of weeks before that I made $70 in under 90 minutes.
Cori does not bonus well here...the most I have seen for any job is 11.00, and that's bonused.

Live consciously....
I just looked and the last 15 jobs I did for them only two were under $20.

Thanks to a bonus and a well timed bonus, I picked up two pair of jeans for my picky 18 year old daughter for $5 total recently.
BestMark was my first MSC to work for, and I recommend their retail shops for beginner shoppers. They don't pay enough for me to shop for them much anymore, but they are a solid company, and they pay quickly. Best of luck!
I'm in So Cal too. I'm not in OC but have occasionally shopped there when I'm visiting a friend that lives there or if it's somewhere boarding the county I shop and I'm already going to be near the area. It's hard to find bonused shops here in So Cal unless they are all the way down south near the border or up in the mountain areas. I would definitely check out Market Force to get your feet wet at least.

I also would recommend CORI if you like the idea of a free dinner every now and again.

Mreichart:
Find the thread titled: Favorite Mystery Shop Companies or something similar. And read carefully! : ) Also, check out the Companies You Would Never Work For thread. Be careful with that one, cause everyone's experience is never going to be the same, IMHO. Those two helped and continue to help me! Have fun! YOu wIll loVe iT!
