FREEMAN GROUP

Thanks to this forum, I cancelled a rock n roll shop and let the scheduler know that I had heard that Freeman was not paying shoppers and that I wasn't independently wealthy and able to do the shop and absorb the costs.

Katfromct7,
When did Freeman want to schedule you for the job you cancelled? Are they still operating?
Thanks!
I heard the company had declared bankruptcy. If so, I'm guessing there can't be any further legal action. Has anyone heard more?

here's his phone number, just for fun. I can not find any kind of bankruptcy on them, so far.....

I don't think they ever filed for bankruptcy. Bill just ran off with everyone's $$ and continues to work as a consultant from what I understand.

Someone did file in small claims against him in 2012 for a couple of hundred dollars, the case was dismissed. ( Usually that means he paid the claim off before court so as to not have a judgment against him on record)

Obviously I wasn't around when they went belly up, but I imagine this statement is unnecessarily incendiary. I thought the company went broke and didn't HAVE the money to run off with. Or was this a case of him taking all the money out of the company and then claiming they didn't have it?

At the moment only demons come to mind
I see a reference to "his" name and that he is consulting elsewhere. If someone will give me his name and whatever else you know I'll track his comp ay down and let them know what he has done. Does anyone have any info for me?
Lucyball,

"His" name is Bill Freeman, and he still owes me a couple thousand dollars. I know he owes a couple hundred to some other people too. sad smiley Please let me know any information you get.

Thanks!

Be glad you missed that debacle, bgriffin. Bill was notorious for publishing pompus articles about his first-class air travel and the fine hotels he stayed at, but directed his staff to obfuscate the financial details of the company when recruiting shoppers, sent natives in third-world countries on shops that cost them the equivalent of a weeks pay (and never paid them), made failed promises to pay his own employees (who continued to work while not being paid, apparently), hired uninformed third-party schedulers to continue to dupe shoppers and never paid them either, etc., etc.

IMHO, nothing mean said about this guy is unnecessarily incendiary. It's not some unfortunate situation where they tried hard to make things work and it just wasn't meant to be. They had an outdated business model with an extremely high overhead, and then left shoppers to foot the bill for all of it using deception. Mainly new and unsuspecting shoppers, since most with experience in the industry opted out of Freeman shops before they went belly up.

Steve pretty much has this right. I got out LONG ago.
If you have the ICA or Shopper Agreement, look and see where they list where legal disputes are supposed to be resolved. Then check the state where you did the shop.

In Indiana, they have to show up to court. They might be able to forward the agreement to the court without appearing and the court could through out your case. But doesn't seem like they would do this.

In Indiana, when you when a case, you can go to Proceedings Supplemental. They have to show up in court to face an inquisition of their assets. If they do not show up, you can request the judge to issue a Body Attachment Warrant, which means law enforcement gets them, delivers them to the pokey in the jurisdiction that you filed until the court date.

Do not read so much, look about you and think of what you see there.

Complaint: I did three hotel shop reports for this company back in May and June of 2012. Money owed is reimbursements and shop fees combined.
I did three jobs for this company back in May and June of 2012. Payment was promised to me in 60 to 90 days. After 60 days, I contacted the company with no response whatsoever. I emailed many different people including Bill Freeman himself. I received no response. I am left with no option, but to leave a complaint to the BBB.

I am owed 307.59 in reimbursements for 3 hotel stays that I went out of my way to complete. I am also owed 60 dollars in fees promised to me for completing these shop reports.

Re: Case # 91244187: Danielle Felts
I represent Freeman Group, Inc. and write now in response to the complaint Ms. Felts filed with
your office against the company. My Felts first contacted the company on February 7, 2013
requesting payment of a year old invoice in the amount of $347.59. After verifying that the
amount asserted in her letter matched the company's records, the letter was forwarded to me
for response. I sent Ms. Felts an email regarding her invoice on February 13, 2013. I note that
her complaint to the Better Business bureau was received February 10, 2013- three days before
she received my response. The concerns raised in her complaint to the BBB were addressed in
my letter. If you need anything further regarding this, please feel free to contact me.
Cordially,

Consumer's Final Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I contacted the company numerous times prior to the aforementioned date. This just happens to be the only time that it was forwarded to Freeman Group's lawyer who is probably getting paid a nice amount of money herself. I'm not satisfied with her response because her response doesn't involve me receiving the payment owed to me.
