Maritz procedure for scheduling shops?

I signed up for Maritz a few days ago. Got all the paperwork completed after being accepted as a shopper. This morning I received e-mail advising me of available shops in my area. Went to their website and looked through the list and picked a couple. Thought I was self scheduling but it turns out I was requesting to be scheduled. Fine I've been through this with other companies. Later today I received voicemail from someone who said they were from Maritz and if I was (still) interested in performing these shops to call them back.
Is this their normal procedure? I'm not real crazy about talking to schedulers on the phone and prefer to handle things online and via e-mail.

Yup, that is the way they do things. Some people love the personal touch, others find it tedious. I am among the latter and don't work with them.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

After you do 10 shops for them (which must be scheduled on the phone by their schedulers after you request them), you will be able to self-schedule.
Even after self-assigning, they will still call frequently when they need shops done by EOM. Personally, I don't mind their calls. They've been very good to me.

I enjoy their calls, got three yesterday from different schedulers. When they offer me some serious bonuses to do a shop somewhere I'm only too glad to chat with them.

I think this is 10 shops of the same kind though. I've done many shops for them of a certain kind, but when I attempt to schedule a new type of shop, say a different client or a different objective, then I'm only allowed to request, and a scheduler will call me about assigning them.

I love Maritz though. They call almost every day with bonus offers to help them out smiling smiley Helps me out too!
imagator, once you get all call from them asking you to complete multiple shops with some nice bonuses, you will appreciate the calls. I personally love getting calls from them.
I hit the motherload the time they called me at the end of December to do XYZ client in places about 80 miles from here and the other 130 miles, it was only a couple of days before the end of the year and they needed it done asap. They said name your bonus and I did, never thinking in a million years they'd go along with what I asked. Not even 20 seconds on hold and they came back with a yes and I flew down my driveway like a thing possessed. Fees plus reimbursement plus bonus put $475 in my pocket. Never before or since have I seen them that generous---the scheduler was so happy I could swear she started to cry.

I did speak with their scheduler on the phone today. I'll get my toes wet next week with two shops. I do hope however that they don't feel the need to explain how the website works and exactly what to print out on every call.
The schedulers usually have good info at hand on the shops you've done and your preferences. They actually build a relationship. Usually, I let them leave a voicemail and call back if I'm interested.

No fee, no shop.
I agree with Cettie. My Dec. 31, 2012 pay day was $914; my all-time high for this business. Maritz is willing to pay when/if they need work completed.

Personally, I love their use of the phone. There's never a chance of misrouted mail, any ambiguity is easily cleared and negotiations are quickly handled. I would encourage all, including my former seminar mate, to become disciples of the Maritz manner of business.
I have been with them for as long as I've been a shopper and never had a problem with them. I don't mind the phone calls, and the schedulers have been very good to me in letting me do a shop on Friday that was due on Thursday, or letting me do 10 shops in a day for a particular client when the client only wants you to do 4.

As for the 10 shops, they need to be of the same type, and no errors to allow you to self shop. The one thing they did this year was reset every one at the beginning of the year and you had to re-earn your self scheduling status.
Hmmm. I never had to re-earn my self scheduling status this year. I have always picked my jobs and self assigned as I pleased. I usually schedule routes of 20 or more shops of the same type.
I prefer email and despise using a telephone, but, I love Maritz! I even set up my voicemail just for their calls.
I love Maritz but the early morning calls for shops that I have already declined gets a bit tedious. They definitely like to talk in person but as a new shopper that is actually very nice. Any problems or questions at all can be immediately answered. Their phone number is everywhere so you don't have to try and research how to contact them. This is the only mystery shopping company that I feel has a personal connection to me. I know their names and they seem to know mine. Over the last year we have developed a good working relationship and they know how far I am willing to travel for special shopping. They still call me though for shops I wont do but I know its just part of their job.

I definitely prefer email so I have a hard copy of what it is about. The only other thing I gripe about is the overdue briefing emails I get. Like most of you I am often at 1 am filling out a days worth of reports and Maritz always sends me out overdue emails at midnight. I've come to just expect them now.

Good luck with Maritz!
Nope...didn't have to re-earn my self scheduling this year. Did you have any data or photo holds towards the end of last year that might have made you lose your self scheduling rights?

I've worked with Maritz since 2009. My first 10 shops were not 10 of the same type, they were 10 shops from a total of 4 different clients. After performing 10 total shops, I was able to self-schedule.

You are the first shopper I have heard of being reset and having to re-earn self-scheduling status. My account was not re-set and I have self-scheduled continuously since 2009 without having to re-earn my self scheduling status. Although I enjoy working for them, I would likely not be willing to re-earn my self-scheduling status by requesting shops and waiting for Maritz staff to telephone me to schedule me. I did it once and I'm glad I did but I likely would not do it a second time.
My first assignment, the caller gave me three instead of the one I signed up for. It was great.
I do a lot of work for Maritz. Once they get to know you they will treat you very well. I have several schedulers who call me on a regular basis and even to wish me a happy birthday or happy fourth of July.

The grocery shops that require pictures are underpriced though. Get at least double on the bonus or they are not worth the time.
I have never heard of re-set and re-earn the self assign status. I have worked for them for 5-6 years and love them. They have shops I can pick up monthly.

They have more than 1 client? All I see is their big gas station client and I checked 100 miles out. Or is this a case of some shoppers not seeing everything an MSC has?

Speaking of that particular client, how hard are the audits? The same ones have been sitting there for a month in my area and nobody has taken them. I'm wondering if they're worth it? I've never done anything with a reveal before, not sure how into it I am.

I've done a lot of <Ooops! ICA Violation. Gold certified shoppers seriously should know better. MUCH better.> gas station audit's with them, it's pretty easy once you get used to it. For your information they also have <For cryin' out loud! Seriously?! Again?! Knock it off with the ICA Violations.> a couple of other places as their clients.

I have had to re-earn my self scheduling status. They said they didn't know why, the computer does it automatically. I finally got it back only to have it pulled again. The first time, yes I did have some photo holds, but not a lot for the amount of jobs I did for them. This last time I mixed up the receipts, as I was trying to get the reports done and was up past 2:00 doing them. I was half asleep. I sent an email notifying them of it as soon as I realized it which was before I finished all my reports. I am assuming that's why they pulled my self scheduling this time.
I wish they would give us 24 hours to report. I know I would make far fewer mistakes if I was wasn't reporting at all hours. With the audits, everything is documented on site, so there isn't a matter of forgetting something that happened like there might be on a mystery shop.
I was on a monthly rotation for them on a certain account. Suddenly, none of these shops would show on my list but they would show on every other shopper's list. When I called and asked I was told that information the locations had mailed to me had been returned to the locations. I pointed out that this was not a possible scenario as I had received, photographed, and uploaded copies of everything I had been sent. How could I have done that if I had never received the materials??? The person stumbled and fumbled on the other end of the phone and came back with the clever retort of "Well, that was the decision and you are no longer on the project."

Needless to say, I stopped coming to their aid when they cry for help on the other projects which are real dogs. Another feather is that, apparently, now that I am not doing this project it seems no one else wants to either. tsk tsk Maritz.
Yes, it is. When you're new with them, they call you and schedule the shops for you. Once you've done (I think) something like 10 in a row without canceling any of them, they you achieve self-assign status. You can schedule to your heart's content then! Well, up to 60 shops a month anyway! I've been with them for a long time now. I like them. They will still call you and ask if you can do certain assignments, sometimes I accept, sometimes I don't. It depends on how long it's been since I've been to a particular bank. The bank shops are the only ones I do with Maritz. I know they have gas shops too and I think they have convenience stores. I don't know of any others. I think it may depend on the area of the country that you live in.

I'm with you.. I find it TEDIOUS. I haven't shopped with them in a while because I also find the resizing of the documents tedious and it isn't worth my time. They still call me, and I keep them around in case I am desperate for some xtra cash one day.
