Maritz Automatically Assigning Shops

I just got assigned shops that I did not request. Why would you do that??? I am not sure I want to take anymore shops with them at this time.

I did a LOT of shops for them last month and am kind of burnt out on that particular shop program and, this may be just because I did a LOT more shops with a new client that they were not prepared for (as discussed in the forum in another thread) but my pay was slow as a snail getting to me... and still is.

I HATE cancelling and/or rescheduling shops. Now I have to do it with shops that I didn't even ask for.... what's that going to do to my shopper rating with them??? On the other hand if I take them I am afraid I am going to get scheduled all the time for things I don't ask for and there are some shops they have that I REFUSE to do without a HUGE bonus. I have yet to receive one because the money I want for them is outrageous, which is the point because I DESPISE the shop.

Gosh, I hate this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started another thread on the same topic. From what everyone has told me, at the end of the debrief, it asks would you be interested in doing this shop again. I guess that is a commitment to them, if you say yes. They assigned me a shop also, I emailed them, but have not heard anything back. They are not clear, that they will auto-assign if you say yes.
I love the fact that Maritz has re-assigned all those shops for me. However, I'm not overly pleased of the dates. But, I'm certain they can be adjusted.

RobG: I believe you are correct; at the end of the de-brief, I indeed clicked affirmative on the question regarding if I was interested in performing the shops again.
I just received an email from Maritz telling me that I had been assigned some shops that I had done in the last month or so. Some of these shops I only took because I was in the area, and normally would not be there, or they were highly bonused. I do remeber checking the boxes at the bottom of the form that asks if I would be interested in doing these shops again, but did not think they even looked at that question.

Is this a common practice for Maritz? I have been shopping with them for a few months, and this is the first time they have auto assigned shops.

This is apparently happening to others. There is a thread discussing this about Maritz in the MS Company Discussion area.
I just had the same experience. I called the team to find out how and why I was assigned. They explained that if you check off the question asking if you would be interested in a future shop, you are actually requesting and agreeing to it. And yes, I got dinged for cancelling those auto assigned shops.
That bank shop is one they do that for....if you remember, you also check a box for the date range in the month that you would prefer to do the shop.

They have issues getting those shops done, probably because people don't want to keep going back to the same place and look like idiots asking the same goofy questions of the same people.

Apparently, there is a gas station brand not in my area that they do that for, as well.

I would not mind doing some of them again, but I do not want some of these shops in far away lands.

Guess I am gonig to get dinged because I am not doing some of these.

I suggest that you phone them, rather than email. They're very accessible.

Looks like the shopper world is divided into two parts, those who thought they were committing to those shops, and those who didn't think that they were.

Me, my only concern was whether they would honor their side of the committment, or run off and give them to some shopper they liked better, so I was happy as a lark when they popped onto my list yesterday.
I'm not doing them if they are not bonused. I don't like that they just assign them without asking first.

The banks have the check off question on whether you want to shop again, and also a choice of date ranges to select. The service station works the same way. I love it. I elect to shop again on shops that are either close or shops I can bunch into a day route. This works much, much better for me than the old system that Cori had, where you had to pick a specific day and you had to wait for a three day period to get the shop. Talk about insane, that was just nuts. I do not miss Cori and their weird assignment system. No wonder they had to pay exorbitant bonuses to get work done. They didn't give anyone the opportunity to schedule it in a logical manner. I'm on board for requesting re-shops at the bottom of the report. I can see where shoppers new to Maritz might find this confusing and I agree it would be better if that check box came with a clear explanation of what it meant. Once you think it through and learn to take advantage of it, you're going to love it. What can be bad about scheduling steady work a couple of months into the future?

I only do the $6 fee / $6 reimbursement shops for Maritz which have a rotation. If they didn't I'd love to lock up the 20 or so in a 10 mile radius of me quarter after quarter.

I thought one of the positive things about Maritz, and why one puts up with some of their nonsense, is because they pay like clockwork. Well, they aren't paying me like clockwork. I received a check for one whole shop yesterday, and I did at least five in that time period. And as far as I know, I submitted the invoices correctly. None of them were on hold.
That is going to be the first order of business when they call me next week.
I think it's unprofessional and I too will be dinged because I am not doing them unless they are bonused. I don't care if they are far away or not, it's not right to just assume that someone will take them again.

Yes I checked the box, but let's not forget. I am my own contractor I said I would BE INTERESTED in doing them again. Not that I WOULD DO THEM AGAIN. So dinging me for canceling shops that I did not apply for is bad business...

So here is my reply to Maritz for assuming that I was going to just take them.

Maritz,
Although I checked the box indicating that I would be interested in doing these shops again, I did not agree that you could automatically assign them to me.

I will not complete these shops for less than a (my offer) shop pay.

If this offer can not be met I will be declining these visits as I do not have a route planned in the area.

Please note that I do not usually cancel shops and I believe it is not good business to do so, however, as I did not agree that you could automatically assign these to me, I feel that it is my right to decline.

Thank you
Kathee

You think if we all do that they will stop assigning them and ask first. Maybe give us a specific window of time (24 hours would be nice) to either accept or decline? I think that would be a better business practice.

I have done over 2000 shops for Maritz over the past five years and they are, by far, the most consistent and conscientious MSC I have ever worked with.

I have had perhaps a dozen shops that I did not get paid for and most of those were my own fault because I failed to submit an invoice within the required 14-day period or if a client withdrew the shop after I had completed it but before I had debriefed it (it happens, especially when you're doing long mileage routes).

Most of time I can contact Payroll by email and follow-up by phone to get the issues resolved and they're willing (most of the time) to bend over backwards to get my issue resolved.

Lately, though, I have noticed a definite degradation in service. I don't if this is a consequence of Obamacare where the company is cutting the hours of its workforce so they don't have to provide medical insurance for its schedulers or some other reason but there is definitely a decrease in the number of people available to answer the phones for any given team, especially Teams 3, 4 and 5.

NOPE they will pay me extra for the assumption and IDC how much I got paid for the first shops. Just because I had a great time at the beach with someone and say..."Hey, wanna go again??" does not mean that I have the right to show up at their door and say "K, let's go!"

I agree with MDavisnowell and I disagree with Kathee70. I just performed two of the bank shops today so I have the form directly in front of me right now. Here is what it says...

"QAssign Z - Would you like to conduct this shop at this branch per rotation rules, if available?
YES
NO

QWeek Z - If yes, please pick the best time for you to complete this shop. [Note: If you select a specific week, your shop WILL be assigned for that week if it is still available. If you select, 'Any of the Above', we will pick the week that we would like the visit to be completed.]
1st - 7th
8th - 14th
15th - 22nd
Any of the above"

By choosing yes and one of the week options, you are indeed agreeing to having these shops assigned to you in the future; usually it is every other month. I choose the locations close to where I live or where I have other shops on a regular basis. If the location is too far away, I won't choose yes for the rotation but if they offer me a big bonus at the end of the month, I will reconsider.

Why do we have duplicates of the same thread? I couldn't find my original post so I reposted it. Now I am seeing my same exact post twice in two different threads on the same subject. Geesh.

Mod note: Threads now merged. Please, people; don't start a new thread on a topic that is currently being discussed. Just add to the current topic. Thanks! Oh, and Shop2Live, your duplicate post was deleted for you. I left the earlier one in place. You're welcome smiling smiley

I learned my lesson on this one - the hard way - and now I say "No" and under "why" say simply "I prefer to self-assign so I can better plan my routes". Fortunately I caught this before I got reassigned some seriously out of town routes I did. I would really hate to get one of the ones that was 200 miles away randomly assigned to me...
I really don't see the confusion here. I think it is clear that if you check yes you are committing if the shop is available. It will still be available for you to self-assign if you check no.

In addition, the guidelines in the reference guide makes it crystal clear - "If you select Yes, the next visit that is available to you, per rotation rules, at this branch will be automatically assigned to you within the window you select."

Although I like to have a guaranteed flow of banks, I stopped checking yes because that gave me no control over which banks I saw and when. If a banker says "Nice to see you again' or "You look familiar" I won't go back for at least six months.
I never check yes and when they ask I just tell them, I don't book shops more than a week out. I'm a route shopper. I don't know where I will want to be shopping two months from now and I'd rather do those banks with a bonus. I also have traveling I have to do and occasional family issues to deal with that might preclude shopping for a week or more at a time.

And I set my own rotation for those banks, and it's more like four to six months, not two.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
What a discussion. I appreciate all the opinions. I do agree they should give you a small window to either accept or decline the shops.
