When the address is wrong... Maritz

Hi All You Experienced Maritz Shoppers

How does it work at Maritz when the address of the shop is wrong in the file?

Without getting into all the gory details, I did 45 shops for them last week for a particular client. Got them all done but one that I couldn't find. The store didn't even come up on the client's website when I plugged in the zip code. So I figure they were closed. it happens.

The next day, I'm getting ready to report it closed and decided to call the phone number listed in the Maritz file, just to be thorough, and they answer the phone. So I get some directions and today I go up to do the shop. Still can't find it. The problem is the street is nowhere near where the directions are having me go.

Turns out, the Maritz shop file has the store on 123 Main St. But the actual address 123 Mainstreet where Mainstreet is all one word. The town has streets named Main Street AND Mainstreet.

The only way I find this out is because the guy told me the store was across the street from "XYZ Store", so in frustration I plug "XYZ store" into my GPS and it finds it on "Mainstreet".

The guy in the store said there were a bunch of Main Streets, I asked him North South East West, like that? He says yeah, something like that. Doh.

Sadly by the time I finally find it, it is too late to do the shop.

So is this a fair case where they should pay me for a closed shop and then they can pay me again to do the shop at the right address?

Thoughts?

They'll likely just reschedule you to perform the shop again, without giving you a closed shop fee, as the store was not closed. They will probably look at it as they did provide the correct address. Depending on who you talk to, they may even tell you that you should've called the location number provided if you had any confusion.

I have plenty of shops that are given to me with incorrect spelling or spacing of words in the address. For example, say the main road here was DuQuesne Drive... I've gotten shops from just about all of my companies, spelling it DuQuene Drive, or DuQuene Street.

Thanks. I guess you missed the part where I said I called and still didn't get any better information.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the situation?

If it's any help, the scheduler is not someone who is readily available to talk like regular Maritz schedulers. He works for another company who handles scheduling for this Maritz client.

He's a good guy, so there won't be a problem getting it rescheduled. The question is whether I can get them to pay extra for it. Looking for suggestions along those lines.
I didn't miss that part. I caught that part, and also the part where you looked up the landmarks the employee gave you over the phone and was able to find the location.

First, I still would have called Maritz directly even though you say that they did not schedule it themselves. It is still their client and they should be made aware of the situation.

Second, asking for a bonus or extra pay after the fact may not work. It definitely does not warrant a closed location fee; it was only closed because you did not find it in time.

Third, you can not rely on your GPS to get you there. New locations, addresses, developments are not always available. Calling the location directly (like you did) and getting landmarks (like you did) is your best bet. It just sounds like you waited too long. And if you were not satisfied with the first employee's answer, ask to speak to someone else who maybe knows the area better.

Wrong address and GPS directions is just a part of life.

I was gonna say that gas station addresses are notoriously wrong. And that's true across all companies, not just with Maritz, but it sounds as if this were a bank and not a gas station.

There are reasons that a body stays in motion
At the moment only demons come to mind
I had one recently where the shop docs gave the address as 959 but the station was across the street at 950. Simple typo, the 9 and 0 are next to each other. I did the shop, but technically the shop paperwork said to be sure I was at the right address. Technically I should not have done the shop. But I did it and it was approved.

I did the same shop a few months back and reported the same addressing error, and it's still showing up on the shop docs incorrectly.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Maritz shops' addresses are the worst among the companies that I actively shop for. They list the address as what is on the receipt, and that can be outdated or flat out wrong. I keep going back to one GS that still lists the Rural Route number, said system phased out over a decade ago - can't find that on a GPS!
I always look at the street view the first time I go to a location. Always - every single one. If it's not there, I'll pan around with a close satellite view. Still can't find it, I call (saying I need to buy a gift card or am supposed to meet someone there.)
On top of Maritz's messed up addresses, a GPS and GoogleMaps often make mistakes. The two minute verification by street view when planning the route could save hours or salvage an entire route otherwise destroyed by driving around looking for the right street/location.
These things I learned the hard and expensive way.
@junk1958 - Sorry, but from the MSC's perspective, the last shopper found it. Why didn't you? Hopefully they'll still let you go back, maybe even saving the bonus, but if not, then at least saving your reputation with them.
Maritz usually seems to have the wrong address. I did two today, both wrong, one would have been 10 miles away. Even one of the station names was wrong, yet I know I did the right locations. I guess you just get used to it. Check the station number on the receipt, it is always right.

That is not true. I perform a monthly route of gas station shops and one of them has the wrong station number printed on the receipt along with two addresses, one of them being the correct address. When I first noticed it at the beginning of 2014, I called my project manager. After she did some research, she discovered that the same person owns multiple stations within the same brand.

If a cash register breaks at one location, some owners will just swap out a cash register from one of their other stations. Apparently the owner is not that concerned with having the correct station number or deleting the old address from the purchase receipts. Every month I have to make a comment on that shop's report. It is frustrating but the project manager and I can not do anything about it. The change needs to come from the owner or corporate.

And if they have paper. So many of mine don't and then I have to go inside and have the cashier do a reprint.
