Trend source

I was trying to decide whether to sign up for Trend Source. After reading comments about the situations people are/going through...I don't think I will. Community, is that a wise move or does someone know something positive about them?

I've never had any problems with Trendsource. You will find that with almost every company some people will like them and some won't. It's best to try do a shop for them and find out for yourself.
Ziggy, I don't know what "situations" you are referring to, Personally, I love TrendSource and I also love that they pay religiously, twice a month. As long as you're not in Florida, I say. "Go for it!".

Personally I like Trendsource. Some of their projects are interesting, and a nice change of pace from timings, employee names, and whether or not the bathroom was clean and the sidewalk free from debris.

I can understand some hesitation about them requiring an EIN, and I'd suggest doing some research on whether it's a good idea for you, in your state.

I really enjoy the cemetary and state park assignments. Some of the business evaluations are interesting as well.

Don't want to go too far off-topic, but how would you determine if working under an EIN would be to your disadvantage?

Some states levy an additional tax on you as a sole proprietor/small business. They think you have equipment that you, in fact, don't have. Tables/chairs for customers, multiple computers, heavy duty fax/printer/scanner, landline phone system etc.

It doesn't matter to them whether you're an accountant, a mystery shopper, landscaper, candlestick maker... they think you have stuff that you don't, and tax you accordingly on this nonexistent equipment.

In regards to finding out laws in your particular state, you would either speak to your accountant, or contact your state tax board.

I absolutely love Trend Source. Find a regular project and a regular contact there to work with, and you won't have problems.
Trendsource supplies half my monthly food and pays twice a month, why not?????

Live consciously....
Trend Source is a good company. I would like to do more of their business evaluations. As BBird said - a nice change of pace.

I have had an EIN for over 25 years and all my income is put through a sub chapter S corporation. Never had a problem. It costs nothing to get one and I'd rather give out the EIN number than my SS number.
I've been a Mystery Shopper for Trendsource for over 10 years. Never had a problem.
I only do a few well-bonused shops for them these days, one or two per month on average, but they're a great company to do work for. Dependable pay, interesting assignments, and excellent support.
I love them and have always been more than satisfied with all assignments. I do both reveal and not and also inspections. I cannot think of any reason for not working for them.
Yes, to support what others said, their pay is a quick turn around, unlike many other companies.
They pay on the 5th and the 20th of each month, no waiting period.
After your receipts are submitted they go through a verification which is quick, at least my mystery shop standards, less than 48 hours.
I have on occasion done a shop as late as the 3rd of the month on gotten paid for it on the 5th.
I have found Trendsource to be fine. The Onsite Inspections require that I pass a background check at my own expense, but the cost is low. Some of their procedures a little unusual, but I can say that about most MSCs. Their reports are invariably quite reasonable to do with minimal narrative. The pay is sometimes low, but the time required to do them is commensurate with the pay. I wish they did state parks around here. Cemetaries? We have lots of them, but I haven't seen them shopped in this area by anyone.

Myst, I've done two types of cemetary assignments for them. One is planting flowers. I used to do these for Intellishop but they seem to have disappeared from there. Shortly thereafter, I started seeing some from Trendsource.

The other is taking pictures of signs of vandalism and/or disrepair. Headstones fallen over and not righted, graffiti, high-grown weeds, severely cracked asphalt in the driving/walking paths, etc.

I like to do them because I like looking at the names. My youngest daughter was named after a name I saw on a headstone during a Trendsource assignment. It is a nice change of pace.

Ziggy – While I have no complaints on Trendsource and how they do work, one thing to be aware of is that they have very tight report deadlines depending on the kind of shop you do. All the shops I've done were due by midnight, the same day of the visit, regardless if you finished your on-site visit at 8:00 PM that day.

BBird, I'm trying to decide if that's sweet, or creepy. o.O

Almost every thing I do for anyone requires a report by midnight. A few allow it by 10 a.m. my time the next day. A few others 24 hours. But most are 12 hours or midnight, whichever comes first.

I believe I got an extension on a Trendsource once until noon the next day when it was an out of town BV that I did on a route. But you have to have the scheduler on board with that because the auto-complaints come out at 1 minute past any deadline you're on.

Time to build a bigger bridge.

Probably a bit of both.

I love classic names, and the baby books these days are so full of absolute crap that they were hard for me to weed through. I saw the name on the gravestone, and it felt... right.

Trendsource is one of my favourite MSC. Not much in Alberta except the seasonal reveal shop which I really enjoy.
