Satisfaction Services - Paying to be a Rated Shopper?

I went to register as a shopper for Satisfaction Services and was surprised to see that they are suggesting a $9.99/year fee to be a "rated shopper". I have always been told that as shoppers we should never expect to pay to get shops. Any advice or experience from those of you who know this MSC? Thanks!

Never paid, never needed to. They call me every month to do shops.

Ditto to BBird and diana.

I actually should like to suggest that Satisfaction Services weigh the benefits to the shoppers and the cost to their image of the "rated shopper" program.

I really like the company, but would never pay a company to mystery shop for them and seriously question this approach.

Yeah, this "rated shopper" thing smells so fishy I want to spray the air freshener to try to get rid of the odor.

<fssssst>
They used to call me or email me to do an upscale shop at a very measly fee. They never gave a bonus so I stopped accepting them. I would never pay to be a "rated shopper."
To all who took the time and effort to reply to my question - thank you! I will register with them, without paying to upgrade to a rated shopper, and see what happens. I will share if things out of the ordinary happen ... thank you, again.
I decline to pay them a penny. Until they can prove to me in advance that there is a very good cost to benefit ratio, I will just opportunistically take whatever I happen to get for "free". I used to get shops for an atheletic goods store, but those seem to have ended. Haven't done anything for some time - definitley not this year.

Plus, their website is not user-friendly. I can't request assignments from a list of available so I have to wait for the inevitable "We have a shop in your area," email. No way to track shops or payments either. And frankly, sometimes I just don't want to be rated. I'll do the shop and take my check, thank you.

I would love to hear from someone who has actually paid the fee, there must be someone out there. Anyone care to share?

I signed up and have shopped for them several times without incident despite not paying the fee. I can't even imagine how many good shoppers they scare away by trying to charge a fee.

The website is rough like, iamloved1 mentioned, but I thought the pay and reimbursements were fair. No self assigns, no details on the shop board. City, zip code, one or two words like "Restaurant" or "Dinner at Bar." You request the shop and then they might get back to you if they need you to fill it with details.

Shopping for years, but new to the Chicago area.
Sounds like MSPA certifications.. I paid into it thinking there was some benefit but it only turned out to be some six digit number I can put on my MSC Shopper Profile. I don't travel to the US often anymore and they don't seem to ever have conferences here in Canada so there is no benefit.

I shop their main FF client. They require almost as much content as some of the fine dining jobs. They pay by check. Never had a problem with them.

I avoid using their site to find shops. They appear to use KSS for certain jobs. Much easier to pick and apply from there.

The problem is as already noted, you can not track your completed jobs. You also have to track down the 3rd party sites they schedule through if you want to see an actual job profile before you send a request.

I wonder where they are listing the Chocolate job at?

Check the job board here

I signed up and didn't pay to be a rated shopper. I was called up and offered a bar integrity shop based off my application, yet the timing would not work for me as I already had a conflict.

I see the list of jobs and locations on a very short national job board listing. They don't have fee's listed on all the jobs and no detailed job listings on the shop page.

I checked the box of a job that sounded interesting as I am actually interested in getting the service offered done for myself. I got a phone call within 2 hours from a scheduler who was very friendly and I then learned this job was not quite what I thought it was. They then had a job that was not listed on the board that was what I thought this assignment would be and offered that to me.

I just accepted my first shop assignment from them and no place on the website was the job fee listed.

I would not have touched them based on the website alone if it were not for some people here that say that they shop for them. They were very up front verbally verifying that I agreed to the somewhat slow payment cycle.
I think after you have done a few shops for them you can go in and see their "job board" per se. At least that happened for me. I can now see shops in my area and the pay, then I have to check the box and a message is sent to a scheduler who in turn contacts me. I don't do their shops often as the one here locally are for grocery stores. The grocery stores carry a lot of organic products and prices are higher. I do soooo love their prepared food section. Pay and reimbursement is $30 and I always ended up spending $40/45 so I kind of stay away from them.
If that store is the one that has an isle that looks like a GNC in the middle and an extensive wine/cheese section with an olive bar, I'm going to have to work my way to the real job board.

I bet people scramble to get that assignment. I can't stay away from the fancy cheeses. Yeah, it's only $22 a pound spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
I paid and it was not worth it.

I have shopped with them for almost three years and have not paid to be a shopper. (They've never asked, even though I saw this option on their web site.) Their payment by check is dependable and their schedulers are easy to work with. Just wish they had more shops in my area.
I like shopping with them but I did not see an advantage paying. I thought I would get special privileges but I did not. I still can not see the shop info before I apply.

scanman - Yep, that is the shop. They pay $10 comp/$20 reimb. and I can't get out of their without spending at least $40-45 so I've stopped doing them except on occasion. I love their fresh soups, salads. In fact I swear when they build their stores they do the ventilation systems to carry the smell of the fresh cooking food all over the store. You just can't resist buying their food!! And the cheese dept. is incredible but I don't know much about cheeses so I just try a different one on occasion. I could do them every month as they don't get picked up very quickly. I think mostly because their products cost more than a regular store and people end up overspending on the shop.
