Maritz Travel Bonus for Gas Station Audits

Hello Bill. I shop for Maritz in the Fort Worth area. I can't say what the traffic will bear in your area, but I don't see many bonuses here and they're not generous when they happen. The trick is to learn to do them efficiently so you can do several in one day. I don't find them to be interested in mileage unless they have something they can't get done, which doesn't happen too often in my area. If they have an isolated shop they need done they'll talk to you but don't get your expectations up too high. Their bonuses are what I consider modest. I do a lot of out of town work for them by picking up several in the same town to make it worth my while to drive there. They don't usually need to bonus. Everything around me gets picked up pretty rapidly unless it's way out in the boonies.

These shops end up at about $19 with reimbursements and I'm quite happy with that as I usually do about 8 in a day. In the years I have been doing them I have rarely seen them bonused and even then it was just a few dollars.
Those in my area are not generally bonused either, but if it is a drive and I tell them, they have bonused the red, white, and blue station anywhere from an extra $10-$35 for me.
The only way to find out if they'll grant your bonus request is to ask. I don't do any Maritz shops without a bonus, but I'm out in the sticks to start with, so other than day trips to cities, everything I do is remote. In general, make your request higher than your bottom line, as they like to counter-offer lower, no matter what you request.
For the 2-gallon GS, my bonus is $10-45.
Look for their "evening eligible" shops for the red and blue station. If you go at night and take a photo of the canopy lights on they bonus them $5. I think they are super easy once you get the flow. My biggest trouble is in getting my photos small enough. I have a camera phone so the proportions of the pictures aren't exactly as they state, but they were about that and seemed to go through.
The largest bonus I've seen from them is $3. sad smiley

I was once offered a $25 bonus to complete 12 shops.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
For any shop that you'd take at the base price, it would be worthwhile asking for a bonus before self-assigning, at least for the first time you're doing a location. If they say no, you can still take it off the board.
Anecdote:
Another shopper passed through an area where I typically travel 2.5 hours to reach, taking 6 shops that he was very pleased to pick up along his way. He took them at base price, and I regularly get them at an extra $30 apiece during the last week of the cycle. I can guarantee he'd could have gotten a bonus of $15 apiece with no hesitation on the MSC's part.
I did one and will not do anymore audits. They thought it should take 20 minutes, it took 90 minutes. I felt like the enemy after I had to announce that I was there to audit.
I recently received a call from Maritz offering three gas stations with a $30 bonus for each. I counter-offered for $35 because they were out in the boonies. Since the first shopper flaked and they needed the shops completed the next day, they accepted my offer. Other than that, I have not received more than a $15 bonus. These shops only take me about 20 minutes to complete and the reports are easy peasy. Don't be afraid to ask for a bonus -- all they can say is "no."

I was offer bonuses of $75 and $100 for two different gas station shops....guess it depends who you speak to and what team it is. I did travel 200 miles to complete the shops out in the middle of rural America.

You may be right. It could also depend on the short timeframe in which they have to complete the shop and how much the client is willing to pay. A scheduler told me once that only supervisors can approve bonuses. I have noticed that every time I ask for a bonus, the scheduler asks me to hold while she talks to a supervisor and if the supervisor is busy, they call me right back to give me a status update.

Last spring, I was on the road doing shops when I received a call from Maritz. They asked me to complete two shops that the previous shopper had flaked on. I was actually already in the area where the shops were located, but I did not tell them this. Instead, I asked for a $15 bonus since I didn't have extra miles to drive. I probably could have gotten more because they needed the shops done that day. The karma goddess kept me honest! I felt that a $15 bonus per shop was fair.

I did a shop for them which was way out of my area for one of the gas stations. It was getting down to the wire for the year (last week of December) and they told me "name your bonus". I said $200 because I figured there was no way they'd accept that (and I didn't really want to do that location anyway). About 20 minutes later I get a call approving that bonus, I asked them to send a confirmation email with the amount stated and it arrived within minutes.

Within 20 minutes my car went rolling down the driveway to do that shop!

takes 20-30 minutes plus imput which can be 30 minutes. But I won't do maritz shops without a bonus unless i have several in one area.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

guanadu, don't give up just yet. I understand your frustration. My first couple of audits for Maritz took me close to 90 minutes to complete because I was too lazy to create a cheat sheet beforehand and I was not familiar with the shop in general. I became more efficient as I completed two or three shops. Now, it takes me about 20-25 minutes to do one.

Hi Cettie. When you say it was way out of your area, how many miles was that? I am curious. Thanks. smiling smiley

It was 104 miles from here, I used husband's car which is small and got good mileage. Plus, I went through a town not too far from here where I was gong to have to go to for a different shop for a company which allows shops done during a time window. Fortunately the window of time overlapped so I could hit them both and it basically saved me a trip to location B. I tend to thrive on narratives so I could get both reports done in under an hour's time and considered it to be a profitable day. Best of all, I didn't fall into any puddles, break anything, get shot at or be chased by anything this time around.
