GAPbuster -- has their track record improved?

I have read some reviews about GAPbuster that are a few years old. Are they as bad as the reviews from the past? I have my Secret Shopper Agreement filled out and am wondering if I should send it in, especially given the horrible reviews?

They are often late with payments. It is VERY difficult to contact them and they don't respond to emails. Sometimes the over the phone promised bonuses never appear.
I always get paid, but sometimes get paid late.

Plan the work. Work the plan.
I don't do many for them, and haven't done any this year, but I have always gotten paid on time.
I did one shop for them a year ago where the instruction said that you must spend at least $50 with reimbursement being $50. So, I spent $51 with tip. They contacted me and said that I did the shop incorrectly because I had to have spent $50 on FOOD and tip was on my own. They did not mention the "FOOD" portion in the instructions. This shop does not even have a fee, so I would have to spend $8-10 tip on my own, AND write a report? Thanks, but no thanks.

I saw last month that they finally changed the directions to include the fact that $50 was on FOOD. I wonder how many shoppers made this mistake.
Their English is terrible and they stonewall any questions about pay. Last year I did 5 fast food places because if you did 5 before a certain date you would get a $25 bonus. I never got that bonus. I emailed many times and they did not even have the courtesy to reply to the emails. Not once. And their app puts the crap in app. Have you ever had to deal with Amazon's customer service in India? It is on the same level. And their web site does not let you see if the shop was approved, nor how much the expected pay is. So if you do a few shops it is difficult to figure out how they arrived at the pay.

I was thinking about Gapbuster today. Let's say you were having a heart attack and Gapbuster manned the 911 phones. The call would go like this:

911: How may I assist you?
caller: I'm having a heart attack.
911: How may I assist you?
caller: How about sending an ambulance?
911: Is there anything else I may assist you with?
caller: You haven't assisted me yet! Have you sent for the ambulance?
911: Please sent us a photo of the heart attack so we may reimburse you.
caller: SEND THE AMBULANCE
911: Is there anything further we may assist you with?
I just got paid for September... it was kinda fast considering the history of slow paying...
So far I always got paid but late for the last 18 months or so. When I do a shop for them I make sure I have other shops in the area. My wife got ripped off big time from them for no payment.

It's been awhile but I was promised pay for closed stores when I last shopped for them. There was a delay for whatever reason because of the client having to verify information. Well after that, there was a drop in assignments in my area because the client was no longer working with them it seems, so I stopped looking at their site. It was a few months before I went back and had forgotten about the unpaid assignments. They never paid me for the closed stores. 2-3 in total. Thankfully one wasn't too far from my home and one was en route to another store. I was only out a few bucks in gas and my time.
I was sent two checks totaling close to $3,000. I am very nervous about cashing them, putting them in my checking account and purchasing reloadit cards for the amount of $2500. Anyone?

BIG no
Jeri that is absolutely a scam. Check out the list of legitimate companies at the bottom of the page if you want to mystery shop.

Those cheques will bounce and you will be out the money. Take them to the police or tear them up.

I applied to them, pretty much the same generic application I give to every company I apply to just changed up for their questions. I've been doing this for about 6 months now and have had no trouble. However, when I applied to them, this is what I got back after I clicked submit:

Thank you

If they are not interested in a shopper's demographics and they don't plan to make any shops available to him, I think it's nice that they say so up front and don't lead the shopper on and waste his time.
They are terrible to deal, if you have problem you can't log on.So you have to sink or swim. The pay structure is right, they lie to you for bonus pay plus reimbursement , actually they only pay you for shops not for your meals.
I have nothing good to say about Gapbuster except they owe my wife money. They lie about the fee. $5.00 pay for a dine in on August 1st. She is still waiting for the rest which was approved to be paid last month but never made it to her bank account. Now they are saying this month.

I have been contacted from Gapbusters to do many jobs over the last 3 months. The pay is excellent and they pay in about 4 weeks. I do get many phone calls. I believe they are calling from Australia. They are fairly easy to work with.

Seems legit 8|
I had worked with Gapbuster in the past but stopped when their big client moved on. Today I got a "you will be deactivated" email asking me to log in or be deactivated. Fine, no problem.

However, when I logged in, it took me to my profile which required "updates". One of the updates: Two references. Seriously? Can't even see the job board without making the updates to see if it's even worth it.
They still owe my wife money from a shop done last August. No reply from e-mail or phone calls.

The worst thing about this company is they will never reply to questions about pay. I suppose they are above that.
Well, they damn sure better pay. I am doing 9 shops for them this month, all bonused and all requiring reimbursement. They will regret it if they take too much time or don't pay because they just may need these shops done again soon. It is a big client and they need more people, so PLEASE, give my name (Lynne Baker) if u sign up with them because they are paying (or say they are) $25/referral.
I've never had problems with Gapbuster payment. I have had to remind them to add my bonus into their system, but the payment has always been correct.

And why are they having trouble filling the shops for the big company? The base pay is much better than at the other MSC (if we're talking about the same assignments).
