I thought mystery shoppers were not employees???

I signed up and paid and now I get spam every day. Trying to cancel it. There are scams on there :-(
Mystery shoppers are Independent Contractors. Some people on this forum refer to being employed, or being an employee, but we are not. For someone who appears to be an scheduler (Julialuvsmovies) to refer to "employees" is just plain sloppy and should not happen, although if Julialuvsmovies uses that word, then she may actually be conferring all the benefits associated with being an employee (such as workman's compensation, minimum wage laws, social security, etc.) on whomever she finds.

I signed up but I see no opportunities without paying. If there were some I could complete to earn some income from them, I would be more comfortable with paying to unlock more. Right now, they seem very questionable.
What do you mean "without paying?" If a company is asking you to pay them in order to give you assignments, don't do it. If you are equating "paying" with having to lay out money for purchases (food, groceries, clothing, postage, etc.), then yes, many shops require you to make purchases which are eventually reimbursed. look forshops which do not.

I think she means she signed up for Shadowshopper (the free one) but has not elected to take the paid membership so she sees nothing.

I advocate having a look at Shadowshopper for what you might pick up free, but I don't advise paying for it.
I am able to see the shops on the board but get no other details without the paid membership. I understand the required purchase while on a shop, but I'm not ok with having to pay to even find out the details to begin with. Undecided if I will pay once I have decent revenue flowing.
I'm not paying for job listings when you can get so many for free. It makes no sense.
Well, my story is that I joined them when I first started MS and they had a special price for 3 months, so I paid. I got lots of leads and companies I (then) did not know about, and thought it was well worth the money. The 4th month they went waaay up in price and offered no 3 month deal so I left. I missed them, but it was not worth what they asked and I had a lot more knowledge 4 months later. Had it been reasonable, I would have stayed, but it made me mad that they did not even let me go back to a free membership, once I had upgraded. Personally, I don't think they are very nice.
Sorry, I was being sarcastic in my reply to the OP because I am frustrated with the spam from Shadow shopper.

If you can take the free trial when you are starting out, it helps you find out types of jobs in your area and the companies that offer them. After that I don't see the value.

You have to sign up with all the mscs individually. Once signed up, the mscs will send you emails daily with jobs in your area.

So I don't see the point in continuing to pay.

You also have to be VERY insistent that you are not continuing and tell them you have already advised your credit card company to not process payment.
My husband and I both do Mystery Shopping and we did sign up and paid for 3 months. We only signed one of us up and we had my husband go to the website to sign up that way. Now, I find company's on here and I also found a list of Mystery Shopping companies on Pinterest. You do not have to pay. You just have to look for them.
I used them when I was new. I paid for the lowest membership level and it was a good way to start out. I would recommend it to other beginners. I considered the fee to be the cost of starting my business. It was low and I dropped it after 3 months. Looking back I still consider it was a good investment at the time.
