Ross sizing audits

I have never done a sizing audit before but it seems like easy money. My trip up is that I need to complete the quiz beforehand and having never worked in a clothing store I am unsure of how to answer the majority of the questions.

For example: Which of the following areas would you NEVER size?
a. Designer Merchandise
b. Four Way racks
c. Promotional Tables
d. Sample Feature/End Caps
e. All of the above

I have no clue here. And i don't know why you wouldn't size any/all of them.

Another question I have no clue how to answer: How many total items are you required to audit?

You're not supposed to answer according to personal experience, but according to guidelines, I'm sure. Don't you get a document to read before taking the quiz?

There was no document to read before the quiz.

Did my first one today and it was much easier than I expected. The location had very few mis-sized items. The women's shoes were easy to audit because the of the angle of the shelves but for the men's shoes (back-up category) I had to pick almost every pair off the shelf. Even so it took just about an hour for my first time out. There was no picture requirement.
I had to laugh at the department description I completed today. I counted all of the "Ladies Active Bottoms". Probably would have been more fun at a Walmart!
DO you have to write down the sku number of every single item???? seems like alot for $16.00- or is just the mis sized items you write it down for?
Thank you!
I seem to recall that you only need to write down one SKU from each category being audited.

Edit: I added a helpful phrase.

Neither. Just need one sku per department counted. If there are 7 or more mis sized items then you need detail of what was wrong but no sku's.

I agree with kathygry; I love the shops. When you first start, it takes longer. I also do mine in between 45-60 minutes. They pay promptly and I have never had a problem with them.

I love these! I find them to be easy, unless there's shoes. It normally takes me 45 minutes and then just a few minutes for the report.

Very forgiving company! I did my first one of these and screwed it up. For some reason I counted items from my "Backup Category" instead of the right one I was supposed to do. I didn't notice until I got home. I submitted and explained what happened and they accepted it and are paying me anyway. Phew! The manager's name and picture were on a sign right behind the cashier, so I didn't have to ask for that.

Shoes are the only real hang ups and sometimes toddler clothing is difficult, but
overall I like Ross stores anyway... so try it!

The last one I did included children's shoes and toddler clothes! It was NOT FUN. Luckily, it was bonused to $26. I've done several of these. My stores are always disorganized and I have way more than 7 miss-sized items in each category - more like 26! I only take these when I don't have many other jobs for the month -or if there's a bonus. At least the report is easy.

I love these shops and have done about 40 of them. I have been lucky because not once has there been 7 or more mis-sized items, so no narrative at all. The manager's name is posted by the front door so I don't need to talk to any employees. I usually snap a pic of the 5 tags so I don't have to write them down during the shop. They average about 40-45 minutes in store and 5 minutes for the report.

Ah man I would've loved to do these! My fiance is actually the manager of a Ross. That could've been entertaining.

Wow! Your city must be super organized! I always have more than 7 in every single department.

I have done many Ross shops. Shoes take the longest to audit and bras are my least favorite. I try to go early in the day before the racks get really messed up. Rarely do I have a category with less than 7 mis-sized items. Bras can have 40-70 mis-sized items. The MSC wants the reports to be very detailed, for example, "One size 32 was mixed in with size 36. Three size 34 were mixed in with size 36. I found one ladies (division 12) skirt did not belong on the rack." I feel the scheduler misleads people when she/he states the report takes only 5 minutes! To do a good job, it requires good notes and at least 30-40 minutes of report time on average.
So how on earth do you remain inconspicuous while in the store for an hour counting over 600 items and taking notes on possibly 40-50 mis- sized bras? Are these video shops? Or revealed? I've seen them in my area and they seem to stay on the board for a while. I've just never really looked into them because they seem complicated
not video not revealed easy as pie.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

If you don't have mismatched items, then the report time is very short. I normally will have one or two areas that have more than seven mismatched items. I've never had anything close to what you have.
daloda, I used to do these sizing audits and I never worried about being inconspicuous. I took all of them that were convenient to me. I could do the audit in about an hour so it was reasonable pay. They also have a purchase and return for the same client that's not bad because you can pop right back in with the return. I didn't like it as well but did some of them every now and then. The schedulers and the company are top notch.

The other P&R Ross shop is IMHO easier as it takes me 20 to 30 minutes including return. Yes it pays $3 less but due to time difference in preforming the shop actually pays more per hour.

Once I did a Ross shop where approximately 100 of the 125 pairs of women's shoes were mis-sized. The stores in the greater Houston, Texas area are a mess. I RARELY shop there as a regular customer because so many stores have problems. I pretty much refuse any Ross job with shoes, bras or panties involved. I go in and focus on my assignment. I am in a one-party state so many times I video tape the jobs, more for the audio than the video. Sometimes, I audio record the mis-sized items using my new tiny audio recorder tucked in my bra. (Thanks to a forum member for suggesting that.) Regardless, I do not look around much and just go from department to department. The shops take me a good hour or so to complete. The report takes at least 30 minutes. In my area, the pay is $16.00. The Mystery Shopper magazine has an article indicating the pay starts at $17.00, but I have never seen it for that fee. RARELY, does a $5 bonus get added.
I've only done one of these when it was bonused to over 20 dollars. It took a little over an hour and the report really was short. I just held a voice recorder and paused and unpaused the recording as I found issues. So, click it on and say "size 12 in the size 14s" and then go onto the next item. This way my recording was only a few minutes long, I sat down and tallied what I had and wrote it up. Super easy. No one paid any attention to me whatsoever. I didn't even have an employee say hello to me the whole time I was in the store!
