Onion Insights Scam

The company Onion Insights (http://www.onioninsights.info) is cheating its clients. Despite my work done for them I did not receive any payment. I don't recommend to cooperate with them.

Where do these companies come up with these names??
If you want people to wonder if you're a fake company, just make your name the same as the fake news agency.

Hoju,
Odd as it may sound, there is such a company and their name has been used as a front for scammers in the past, as have the names of many other legit MSCs. What follows is the reply posted back in 2012, I think.

"We recently identified that there is someone posing as a Onion Insights Market Research Inc. (Address: Unit, 142, 587, Austin Place Bronx NY 10455) and is trying to recruit secret/mystery shoppers across USA and other parts of the world. We would like to categorically state that these communications are purely made with intend to defraud the public and we have neither asked for any payment for mystery shopping activities nor have we sent out advance payment cheques/money order to any individuals. Onion Insights Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in Mumbai, India is not associated with these people in any way. Also, we are a legitimate company fully incorporated in India and we do not have any offices or branches in the United States of America. We urge you not to be misled by such communications."

This address 103 does not exist according to Google Maps on 7th road.

If the company is in India, I think I'd leave it alone. They are not shopping in the USA.

@walesmaven oh I know! My point was that even legit companies give really weird names to their businesses.

Any fake mystery shopping company (scammer) can pretend to be ANY mystery shopping company.

Just cut and paste from the legitimate web sites and find new shoppers, who have no idea that you don't get sent a check for $1984.24 from mystery shopping companies and then send back $1754.00 back to "them" (scammers) via Western Union.

Newbie shoppers need to do their "due diligence" in finding out if someone saying they are a certain MSC ....if they are truly legitimate.

I realize the new shopper could ask, "Is Sinclair Customer Metrics real" Sure, they are real... but you as a shopper, have to figure out what they are asking you to do ...does it seem logical...are you getting paid $10-15 a shop (average) or are they sending you an outrageous check for over $1,500??

Because for the scammers it's common for them to have stolen the name of said MSC and are purporting to be that company tongue sticking out smiley
If I remember correctly, the legitimate company with that name is out of India and an MSPA-Asia (or the appropriate region) member. I don't know if they are operating in the US.

Would it have been better if they named themselves the "Jon Stewart" MSP? smiling smiley

It would be equally as better. smiling smiley

But really, Gapbusters? Albatross? White Clay? Quest for Best? Spies in Disguise?
It's part of the reason this industry isn't taken seriously by people outside of the industry.

Hoju,

I disagree about MSP names being the reason folks outside the industry do not take it very seriously. I believe the basic reason is the need for shoppers to maintain secrecy. Because you and I can't really stand up in a crowed room and start a discussion by saying, "I'm a mystery shopper!. That is so true (or false) about mystery shopping!" The underground nature makes the industry an easier mark for the scams. Then, most people hear about the scams, not the industry itself.

There are plenty of odd sounding names of all sorts of businesses.

I thought that the name of this MSC was a clever idea. Remember the expression, "to peel an onion?" You keep peeling off layers of the onion, and as an expression, it means to understand the underlying reasons.
