Black balled from assignments

I had requested an assignment through MSI/Trendsource. The scheduler sent an email one hour before the shop was to be completed and I happened to be at work that day. I could not leave my job to complete the shop so I had to turn the shop down. Ever since that day, when I make a request, the shops are given to someone else. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I felt bad about not taking the shop but also feel like I shouldn't have been punished for not taking it on a one hour notice.

As independent contractors, it is always the possibility that our customer, the MSC, will decide other contractors fit their needs more than we do. There is no obligation for a MSC to assign shops to us. We are not employees and we have no "right to work." When I am the customer, like when I employ contractors to do my yard work, I pick and choose and I get only my favorites. By not hiring the other yard workers, I am not "punishing" them, I am merely getting the work done the way I want it done, selecting the contractor I prefer, spending my money to get the job don the way I want it done.

I would say to not worry about it. You are not the choice of this company. There are lots of other companies. Apply with others. In my opinion, dropping TrendSourceve would not be a big loss.

Spectacular comparison. I sometimes find it hard to accept when companies choose someone else to do work for them and tend to take it personally. This is an excellent way of looking at it that I will keep in mind for those future instances.

It's very possible that the shops aren't being assigned to another shopper by the scheduler. TrendSource has a system in place where their Premier Network shoppers can self-assign eligible projects. It means that PN members get priority over other shoppers, because we can come along and self-assign the projects we want even if there are outstanding requests from non-PN shoppers.
The mystery shopping world is also about relationship building. Don't be shy to shoot out an inquiry to the scheduler and inquire about the handful of shops you've been chosen over.

From my experience in mystery shopping, being in good terms with your schedulers and the MSC's can lead to some nice rewards, whether it be upfront bonuses, exceptions of limitations. In other words, we're seen as "risk" to these MSC's, as we typically are independent contractors. If you can get the schedulers to trust you and rely on you, they'll definitely reward you. Being proactive and persistent in communicating definitely shows your effort to them, despite what people think.
