St Louis 63101 shops

I'll be on vacation in March in St Louis. My family will be attending a conference, and I was thinking I could pick up a few shops to keep me busy. I've never been there and am a little nervous. I won't know the area and can't get around easy. Any suggestions?

Yes, I have reservations. The conference is at America's center and I got hotel at CY Marriott very near. It that a bad area?

Don't know. I don't live there. Just looking at the data...

Honestly, there isn't a whole lot downtown for mystery shopping if you don't want to stray far from your hotel and America's Center. Are you staying at a Courtyard or the Marriott Grand directly across from the convention center? The MG is a beautiful hotel.

STL is like any other metro, some lovely areas, some not so much. Check out Ellis since they have had some loft apartments within blocks of where you are staying. You didn't say if the conference is on weekdays or the weekend. If you will have some week day availability, look for some bank shops. Off hand it seems Bare and Ath occasionally have some in the heart of downtown.

If you find anything just shoot me a message and I can give you the low down on the area.

Thank you. I'll be the weekday and weekend. I'll be staying at Courtyard, which looks to be right next to America's center. Is this correct?

Kim
I highly recommend shopping the Kirkwood & Chesterfield areas of STL. Quite a bit of retail locations & such in that part of the metro area. St Louis is an awesone town. Be sure to find time to tour some it before you leave.
Market Street or Washington Avenue?

Unless they changed the name again, it's the Marriott Grand. Much better for your conference than the Courtyard because it's 20 blocks away.

Lisa is correct that there are usually quite a few bank shops in the downtown area. Sadly, not much retail. Will you have a car? If not, if you are comfortable using transit there's a mall (Saint Louis Galleria) that has several shops.

I looked at the link for city-data.com and can't figure out why in the world anyone would suggest she stay in a different zip code.

Really miss my hometown! Shop or not make sure you try IMO's Pizza, and Ted Drew's! Also visit the Zoo...free and one of the best!
Don't forget the free tour of the A-B brewery along with some complimentary adult beverages!

They changed the brewery tours slightly. Now the free tour doesn't cover as much. HOWEVER, if you pay to take the Day Fresh tour ($10) you get to see everything the free tour used to cover, plus get several samples of beer and a bottle of beer at the end. We also got a bag containing a bottle of beer brewed that very day, but I don't know if they do that every time or not.

Yes, you should definitely try the local specialties. The provel cheese on Imo's pizza is an acquired taste, and not everyone's cup of tea. I've never heard anyone say they don't like the frozen custard at Ted Drewe's though :-) Any while you're at it, toasted ravioli and gooey butter cake are worth the calories.

In addition to the zoo, the Science Center, and History Museum are free. Our tax dollars working for you.

Funny you brought up gooey butter cake. I was at the spice shop in Soulard Market yesterday and they were saying Chef Andrew Zimmerman had just visited. One of the "bizarre" foods he is featuring is gooey butter cake. It's not bizarre, just freaking delicioussmiling smiley

And to add to what Kathy said about our free attractions, don't forget the Art Museum and Jewel Box in Forest Park. My SIL from Boston is always amazed by the way we support our local treasures with property taxes in order to keep them free to the public.
