An e-mail that sounds a lot like a scam

Today I received an email from a company and a person I have worked with since I began mystery shopping.
Part of that email read:
You’re certain you will be able to cash/deposit the check _______ will send you to pay for the costs, and then wire back any remaining funds to __________ (less the wire fee)
Now, I had to go back and double check that the email was coming in from the actual company and not someone that is using their name. How do you approach the scheduler to tell them about the feeling that comes to you after reading the email? Would you take such a job if the fee is decent?

Just because I have worked with the company for a long time I went ahead to take the shop. What would it take for you to accept such an assignment?

Anyone can send an email showing an alternate return email address. It's a scam and you know it, stop trying to convince yourself it isn't..

Under most email settings is an option to use an alternate email address as your return email. This shows as the from email.

I get emails that purport to be from people that I know well. But I then email them independently of that email (i.e., I do not just hit "reply"winking smiley and ask them if it is really from them. Nope! Someone hacked their address book and is sending frauds malware, and worse to all of the addresses in the book.

You are being lured into a scam and if you follow the instruction, YOU will be on the hook when that incoming check is discovered to be fraudulent a couple of weeks AFTER you have forwarded big bucks fro your bank account! There are quite a number of reports of this scheme, in different forms, all over the forums!

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I would contact the person you believe the e-mail is from and talk to them about it. They should be informed if their account has been hacked.
prince,
We must have cross-posted!

Email accounts don't have to be hacked to be spoofed which was what isaiah58 described. Regardless, an independent email to the scheduler is in order just in case.
