You should be paid for the shop that you performed according to their instructions. You were told not to shop the only remaining associate who was there that day. Not much you can do about that. If they want you to go back and shop someone else, that's a second shop that should come with a second fee. The client got a lot of valuable information from your first shop: employee morale is abysmal and employees will lie to potential tenants to avoid conflict. That speaks volumes.
I am a fair and reasonable person. I am confident everything will work out here. Sometimes weird unexpected stuff just happens.
