I was an editor for two other MSCs at one time, but they wanted me to commit to more hours than I wanted to work. I liked doing it when we had a few months of bad snow but did not want to do more than 10-15 hours per week, especially once the roads were decent enough for me to drive and do shops. One bad winter I wrote Intelli and asked if they had any openings for a part-time temporary editor position. They wrote me back that they used in-house editors who were mostly comprised of college students at the nearby college.
Edited for a correction: This was about seven years ago when they gave me this information. I just looked on their website and they now use proofreaders who work from home. I guess they no longer have in house editors. That being said, there is nothing on the list of qualifications that include having any sort of education. Here is an excerpt from the website:
Necessities to rock out this position
Internet savvy
Attention to detail
Ability to work with limited supervision
Must work in distraction-free area
Access to a computer
