ATH HIGH PAYING Open Checking Account Shop -- Any Caveats that I'm not seeing???

ATH is offering a HIGH PAYING (as in, $100.00) account opening shop in my area. There are no restrictions for age or language, only that the shopper not have shopped the same location within 60 days. And the shopper cannot open a "Safe Balance" checking account. The ONLY instructions that are shown state that it must be a checking (not savings) account, and that it is highly preferable if the required documents for submission be submitted using a PDF format.

ATH is paying $100.00 for this.....seems WONDERFULLY high!!!! It is NOT bonused!! This is the "normal" Shopper Pay listed! Is the narrative excruciating???? Are there terrible restrictions on the account itself that make it not worth opening???? Anyone out there who has done this, can you shed any light on it?

No trick involved. I did one of those shops this summer, and it is as advertised. I opened the account and then closed it within 6 weeks. The only unfortunate part was the bank became my stalker. Way too many phone calls, emails, and regular USPS mail. But money was worth it.
$100.00 is certainly a good fee. But, I would not say that it is a high fee for this type of shop but rather a typical fee.

Before doing one of these shops, investigate if the bank also offers a cash incentive for opening an account. And if so, read the shop guidelines well to see if one can accept it as well.

Every shopper should have a separate e-address to give to merchants/bankers we shop. It is a good idea to have a separate telephone number too.

Hmmmm.....thanks, Chris. I might look into it.

I've never seen a fee that high just to open a regular checking or savings account. I did one for Pinnacle a few years ago that paid $50.00 to open an account, and I was thrilled with that!

Agree 100%!!

Well.....just went back to check, and the one in my area has been taken apparently, because it's gone! There's another one with the same bank, but about 30 miles away....and this one is also paying $100 to open a SAVINGS account (instead of checking). But I don't want to drive that far, so I'll just keep my eyes open.
It is a easy shop. It is actually easier than pinnacles $50 account open bank shop. With that said I advise holding off for at least another month if not two to be sure this MSP is back to paying on time again and is not going under.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
It's an easy shop with virtually no narrative. All of the forms they want have to be uploaded as PDFs.

If you like this one, wait for the $250 savings account shop!

@Buff, I think they are back to their normal pay schedule. I got my Bill.com email today.

WOW......easier than Pinnacle's shop! I will definitely watch for it in upcoming months! Good advice, too, to see how they are doing on their payments!

That's good to know!! Thanks for the helpful info!
Just got a flyer in the mail to open an account at Chase, paying me $300 to do so. No report, no anything. Just wanting me to bank there. I don't $100 is enough unless you were wanting to open a new account anyway.

Now scheduling travel shops for the day after Christmas through mid-January.
I've done several of these shops and they are quite easy. If you're not already a client of the bank, they may do a "hard pull" on your credit. That's really the only drawback.

I agree with BuffaloNY. You might want to wait until the MSC's payment schedule is back on track before taking any shops from them. I received my August payment in a timely fashion, but I noticed that a shop which has always paid between $60 and $75 in my area is now being offered for $35. The reduction in fee combined with the late payment issues in September make me wonder if the MSC is having money problems.
They don't do hard pulls on your credit for deposit accounts. They go through ChexSystems.

I'm glad to know that! I wouldn't want a hard credit check just for opening a checking account!! But they're all taken in my neck of the woods. I'll wait a few months and see how ATH is doing with their payments before I sign up for one.
I think the payment blips happened in March and September. It looks like everything was back to normal October, and I didn't do any shops for them in January for a March payment.

Banks will do a soft pull of your credit to see what they can sell you. This doesn't affect your credit score.

I did one a while back and they paid $250. It was the easiest, high paying shop I have ever done. Even at $100 is is well worth it. No tricks.
Maybe just check the website also to see what that type of checking account curtails. Or just to see what you minimum balance have to be to avoid fees while your money is in the bank. I performed a SA and a CC shop for them over the summer. I want to wait to do the CA to make sure their money issues aren't my money issues.smiling smiley

It also looked like there pre-fall $90 mortgage shops are now $55, but are 2 different shops (not one 2-partersmiling smiley)

BTW, there is a scam alert on there site now.
That was one of their best shops! You keep the account open for three months, check "YES" on their website, and you get another $125!

I haven't seen anymore of those shops.
