AARP hearing test shops

I'm having difficulty believing what I'm reading. The same MSC that does lots of Medicare shops is now doing hearing test shops. The guidelines state you have to make a phone call first (you also have to report on that phone call). You then have to visit the location for the hearing test, which the guidelines state will be a 60 minute appointment. You then have to report on the visit. $10 fee and reimbursement for the test IF they charge you. WTF Are they expecting only shoppers that are dying for the possibility of a free hearing test - to take these shops? There is no way this shop is cost effective unless you're in it for the free test. The free test which you may be able to get without doing a shop - if you're an AARP member (which is required for this shop). Surely I'm overlooking something in the guidelines, right?

I just had a free hearing test. It was thorough and the best was no report to write. The $7000 hearing aid they tried to sell me is a problem, however. $10 fee for that amount of time involved is poor. I would imagine the report would be quite involved also.

The MSC got back to me. The entire fee is in fact $10.00. So, unless you're in need of a free hearing check (though you can get through AARP for free) you're paying them for this shop!

Absolutely NO WAY that report is worth $10 on anyones part. Absolutely no way! Their reports for the health shops are 100 plus questions. Have to image the hearing aid one is in the category.. This would be a 20 foot pole shop.
Yep, you could see the smoke I ran so fast from that one!

Thank you for your feedback. We are currently modifying the shopper instructions and adjusting payment to $21 and full reimbursement for this pilot program. The changes should be updated by tomorrow.
Full reimbursement is misleading... the exam is actually free.
$21 report fee is better than $10 though. Thank you

The shop is not an online test... it is in person. It is in a controlled hearing booth.... get that at home in your living room? Not probably!

How reliable are those online hearing tests please???
It was only released as a shop for AARP members.

Which MSC is offering hearing tests? I am an AARP member and need a hearing test, this would be ideal for my situation.

I thought that we can name MSC's just not client names. There is info on MSC's names all over the forum.

AARP is the client? But the MSC posted in one of the posts above.
I know, right? But for those shoppers who are new to MSing, or new to the Forum, or not familiar with abbreviations for the many MSCs out there, they may not realize it!
It looks like the MSC posted, is in response to a post not mentioned as a MSC. In this case the MSC violated there own ICA not the shopper or postor. Maybe the MSC should remove their abbreviation or post according to there MSC statute instead of hiding behind anonymity.

AND if @clinen11 spouse is a AARP member s/he is automatically a member. So @clinen11 check your spouses age. smiling smiley
AARP is 50. Clien11 is 28.... good luck spouse!

Sojo, the MSC is allowed to reveal their clients if they want to. We can't but they are definitely allowed to do so. The name of the MSC is in the rep's screen name.

And yeah, clinen is on the younger end of the spectrum for a shopper's age and I think I remember reading her spouse is within a few years' of her, so the AARP membership is out. She's funny that she joked she needed a hearing test in her 20s, but I bet it's selective hearing, LOL.

I got my AARP card when I was in my late 40s and my husband is 6 years younger than I am, so he got to get his at a pretty young age!
