A Closer Look

Has anybody done a Hotel shop for A Closer Look? Looks interesting, they reimburse for a night plus dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant. However, that is a lot of money to spend if they are a company that looks for an excuse not to pay. I have only had this experience one time and it was with Market Force which according to this forum is known for that, due to unclear requirements. I have not done a shop for A Closer Look yet. Usually I like to do a couple of smaller shops for a company to feel them out but this is the first thing that they have had in my area. What other MSC offer hotel shops?

I have never done the hotel shop for A Closer Look, but I have done a bunch of their dining shops. This is not a company looking for ways not to pay .... this is a really good one. They pay like clockwork (VERY important to me, I don't wait or beg for pay). I would not hesitate to put out the money for the hotel shop with this company if one came up.
A Closer Look is definitely not the defensive type company Market Force is. I have worked with them for years on restaurant shops and although I have gotten my hand smacked a couple of times, they seem to work very hard not to have a shop rejected. In fact I have never heard a complaint by anyone of a shop rejection. I have seen hotels in my area but they are neither convenient nor do they pay an adequate fee and my idea of fun is not to check into a hotel for the night in my neighborhood YMMV. They reimburse/pay in about 45 days--the shops tell you when to expect the check. For their hotel shops the expenses on the portfolio may very readily be backed out, but for this you can call them and I'm sure they will gladly explain how they work it.
Thanks for your quick responses. I think I will give it a try. It is a few miles away but I love to go to a garden center in that town. Hubby and I are retired so the drive will be nice. Wish they had one at the beach! Checked that out with no luck. Anyway thanks again all!
I have not done any hotels for them, but doing one Sunday on the beach in Newport (2 nites),for another MSc...alot of work, but so looking forward to the getaway, don't mind the work. Give me water anywhere, I'm there. Think I'll check out Closer Look. Hope you and hubby have a great time

I've done numerous restaurant shops for ACL. They are a very good company to work with. Their expectations are well-stated and payment is timely.
I have done a few hotel shops for ACL, and have done many restaurants. I also edited for them years ago and did a few other various ad hoc projects for them. ACL is not a company that will look for a way to not pay you. If anything they will look for every way to help you.

Their hotels are not the reversal kind. You will pay for it and then receive a check for the amount. Your check is sent out on the 20th of the month following the month in which you do the shop. Like clockwork.

I consider the guys at ACL friends as well as clients, and there are VERY few companies I can say that about. While you are not going to get rich doing their shops, and their hotel shops tend to be at a fairly low price point (mid-range to low/mid range), they are good people.

And that is truly the crux of it. Shops or parts thereof may be returned if there is a problem or question. They will always send back feedback, but it is forward looking to strengthen shoppers rather than taking them to task. In all my years with them I have had one scheduler make a couple of snarkey remarks that were only borderline snarkey. Otherwise everything has been very professional and appreciative.
Irene I would love to know what MSC you did a shop for on the beach. I am in South Georgia so the Florida beaches are fairly close. I am not afraid of the work, gives me something to do. As I stated earlier I got into mystery shopping as more of a hobby. You all know better than I that we are not going to get rich doing this. So I only do shops where I need a service or if it sounds like something I will enjoy. I have done a couple because a scheduler was in a bind and offered me a good bonus to help them out. I have a unique situation in my life. My husband had a motorcycle wreck in 2002 he had a head injury (6 months in the hospital) he is doing pretty well but he had to retire because he can't work. Thank goodness he had enough years in that he could retire. And I worked out of my home selling Avon. Between having to devote so much time to his care and the bad economy my business dwindled. So this gives me something to do with my time and gives me a little pocket change. The best part is most of the time it is something he can do with me. It is fun for him. So that is my story, and I appreciate all of the help and input that I have found here.
You might want to look at TNS for time shares. Although you have to sit through the awful pushy presentation, they do offer you sometimes as much as a week in a property and help some with mileage costs. Because these are vacation properties they are usually in areas where folks would want to go for vacations. What I have seen is that they are usually a couple of blocks off of beaches or the local attraction but close enough to them that they are readily accessible.
Avonlady, I am doing this job Sun. for two nights, and will tell you if you pm me. The Co. is from Fla., and this is their first job in Los Angeles, and it will be done monthly. I don't want to give the name online, as I'll be taking work away from myself, and I've waited for a hotel in a beach town...hotels out here are scarce, and Newport rocks beside being an hour and a half from me. SQM has nice hotels, check that out. The level 9 tests are tough, but give it a try. TNS has many Timeshares in the Fla. area (as well as other locations).
