It is very likely that you have little in your area and if they have a shopper or two, that is more than enough for them. I just did a quick check of the MF site in the "Blue Portal" area which is the old Shop 'n Chek jobs. Within 30 miles of your city there are 2 telephone jobs. This morning within 30 miles of my city there are 24 jobs and within 30 miles of a shopper friend there are over 60 jobs.

When you don't hear back from a company, don't take it personally. In a month or two try applying again. If you are in their system but just haven't been approved, you won't get allowed to put in a second registration. But systems drop registration applications from time to time due to computer glitches or human error.

With a couple of companies I finally got approved when I saw a job posting in my area and dropped them a note indicating I would be happy to help them but my application had never been approved. From my records I could give them the date I applied, and of course I supplied the name and email address used for sign up.

Oh my goodness I have found reading this thread to be very entertining this morning...went well w/ the news & my am coffee.I have belonged to several message boards over the yrs I was starting to get nervous that I was going to be forced from this one as I detest bashing and don't believe in making others feel stupid.

Yes I belong to SS as I felt it was away for me to re-enter the world of MS since its been a very long time and many things have changed. I too was alittle confused on how their site work...{thanks Flash & Bugs for helping me out there :} but I DiD read all the fine print, made a post a note as when my trail period was up and proceeded from there.

I have found most of the time if I just take the time to read through all the written material it creates less headache later, as I tend to be impatient and have learned the hard way.
WHEW...so glad certain situations were taken of....Thanks Shopper Buds You Rock...special thanks to Bugs & Flash you are my heros.

Usually my direct deps are there before expected, I have never had a problem w/ my reports but I also run my biz like Flash does-I consider inputting my report part of the job and it gets done immediately, as Flash stated that way everything is fresh in my mind. They have called me a couple times when no one as applied for jobs-I will only accept if it works for me. I have rejected a few of the calls and that didn't seem to hurt my status.
That being said I am beginning to feel it all depends on who is handling that particular job.

One the good side, I can pick my shops without waiting, so they are good fills when I am going to be in the area of one for something better paying, and I still do the SG banking ones from the MFI site, as they still pay SG banking rates.

When I emailed them they sent me an email saying I had been denied as a shopper, but gave no reason why. I see jobs in my area all the time on Jobslinger. Sometimes they say they need a shopper immediatly, and have bonuses. I tried to email them again saying I am available to shop in this area, and they sent me the same email saying they could not let me work as a shopper. I don't get it. Anyone have any idea why they won't let me shop for them when they obviously need shoppers in my area? Maybe they have too many white female 30 year olds???

This is funny- I actually did some television compliance audits in Drs offices in October for Certified because I was going right past them. They were only $8, but worth it for 10 minutes of my time. A quick Q&A sheet submitted on line after a brief interaction with Drs office staff. Now some of those shops are still on their site, but they REDUCED the pay to $4! Not even worth getting out of the car for $4, even if I'm driving by!!

I have to agree. I've had problems with Certified and MF too. Certified just has a general lack of communication and they seem very unorganized. In regard to MF, after having to cancel three times, they put me on "probation". Once I chose the wrong shop somehow and immediately cancelled it (within seconds) another time I was stuck in a huge traffic jam so I missed a lunch time shop, and once more I unknowingly chose a shop in what I'll call a very "ethnic" area. It was VERY obvious I didn't belong there. I actually took a photo of the storefront from my car with my cell phone, just to prove I was there in case (I did not expect to get paid). I sent an email each time to MF explaining the situation, but they don't want to hear any reason. All they care about is if the shop was done or not, cut and dry. Not that I am very concerned though. I have a great rapport with many schedulers who assign me work and my "score" continues to be 9/10 everywhere else. MF and Certified do merit a big "why bother". If you can grab a shop or two from them, go ahead-that is what I do, but their impersonal way of taking care of business combined with their lower-than-average shops don't deserve much attention by any serious shopper. Don't let them get you too upset.

They have been around for quite some time and the same complaints have been levelled against them all along, both for their shopping behaviors and their merchandising. Luckily we are not limited in the companies we can work with so they merit a big "Why bother?". If individual shoppers have found reasonable schedulers to work with, that is cool. But the bulk of shoppers have found them a PITA to work with/for so just don't bother. Perhaps they like it that way :)

I just read on another mystery shopping forum that someone actually just got deactiviated from Certified because they were in a horrible car accident and had to be rushed to the hospital. Supposedly a rep from certified had the nerve to scold this particular shopper for not completing the shop and deactivated them!!! How heartless can one company be??? I REALLY hope Market force buys them out completely and hires a whole new staff. A company like certified has no right to stay in business treating people in that fashion. Shame on them!!! They should be reported to the better business bureau for such behavior!! I can not see them staying in business if they treat shoppers that way!!

> anticipation loans during tax season or payday
> advance loans or cell phone shops where you at
> least begin the purchase process or ANY SHOP WHERE
> YOU MUST GIVE OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER you
> are likely to have your credit checked. Those
> hits will reduce your credit score such that your
> credit card interest rates may rise even if you
> are perfect in your payments. They may also
> reduce your credit score such that you cannot get
> reasonable financing for a car or appliances or a
> house. Some employers also must check your credit
> score, so if it has been whacked by mystery
> shopping, you might not even be able to change
> over to a full time job.
>
> While any loan based shop where you are to follow
> through to receiving a check will include a credit
> check, with some of the insurance type shops where
> you are getting a quote, see if you can just give
> a verbal estimate of what your credit worthiness
> is because "If I decide to do this, I understand a
> real credit check would be required and that may
> change the price, but I'm just trying to get an
> idea right now." I would have this conversation
> by email with the scheduler so that you have the
> email to support getting paid without having given
> out your SSN.

As usual Flash you have educated us....thank-you so much, you brought up points i hadn't even thought of.
I am grateful

ya, rub it in! They have stated they will "never come to HI" as it would force too much of a burden on their price structure. Bummer. I still want my chocolate pancake mix. No one elses makes scones as deep and rich as theirs, and with no chemical taste and way less effort than scratch. I was hooked!

> As I understand you live in NY. IF so, you have
> wegmans. that is the disneyland of supermarkets.
> I have never seen anything like the ones they had
> in MD or VA. I would kill for one of those here
> right along side a TJ's!

NYS is huge, no Wegman's in my area, so need to envy me. Sounds good, though. I'm happy with TJ's and I buy my produce at a local fruit market, cat supplies from the pet shop, my toiletries from Harmon, so sometimes I have a tough time spending $15 on my grocery audits. I shop where I can get the best quality for best price, and the supermarkets are NOT IT.

I have 3 TJ's within driving distance, and one in the city. Nyah, nyah!!

In FL grocery stores can sell beer and wine but not 'hard' alcohol. So there is half an aisle side of beer in coolers and a full aisle side in many stores of wines. If they want to sell liquor as well they simply have a little store with a separate outside entrance and do the wine and liquor there, many times with a door into the store that makes it seem to be just another department of the store, though I do think you need to pay for your purchases there rather than at the grocery's front registers. Some of the older drug stores in the area have the separate door for liquor but in that case it would appear that the liquor store has different hours than the drug store. 24 hr Walmart Supercenters have wines and I believe a limited selection of harder stuff to go with their 'mixers'. (You can tell we are big drinkers--recently when I was tidying our liquor cabinet I found a still sealed whiskey with 1978 on the tax label.)

> No wine here; groceries aren't licensed to don't
> sell wine. But I buy all my frozen foods, pasta,
> sauces, pizza, soy milk and loads more from TJ's.
> Strangely, there's none in Florida either.

They didn't do wine in MD either, due to the strange laws compared to most of the country at this time. But we could go to VA, which on a weekend was 45 minutes away and stock up on "2 buck chuck" (so nicknamed as it is a second label named charles shaw that sold for $2 in the CA stores) for $3.49 a bottle
(higher taxes than CA for wine, but cigarettes were not taxed heavily there for obvious reasons. Yes, I have ALL the bad habits!)

In Mass, where my mom lived, only one city had liquor laws that groceries could sell wine, framingham, so the TJ's there sold it, but it cost almost $5 for 2 buck chuck there. So we only went there one time on a vist, and stuck with VA.
