camrera phone

Being new to mystery shopping; I am wondering, how often you would need a camera phone. A regualer camera could be used for the exterior pictures; but, how often are you using a camera for interior work, where a cell phone should be used? As of right now, I have a simple, tracfone, for emergency use only.

Hi Gvc -

I think it may end up depending on what type of shops you are going to take.

The great thing about the camera phone is that I can be very discreet. If I am in a Mall - and you will find quite a few shops in Malls - I can't very well carry around my camera. However, I can pull out my cell phone and play around with it like I'm texting or checking mail and then lift it up, snap a pic, and keep playing to throw off "suspicion". With a camera you carry around - I just think it is much too obvious.

I also use my phone to text myself - or rather, I text stuff to my husband and he does back to me. Things like description of employees, time in, time out, location cleanliness, etc. Funny thing is, I've had a smart phone for about a year now, and since I've been mystery shopping in October 2011, I've used my smart phone features for shopping more in the past 3-4 months than the first 8-9 months!

A camera phone does not need to be very sophisticated. Mine is a flip phone and I did not buy email service or internet service or any of the rest of those services for my phone, just minimum monthly talk time. I can download photos from the phone to my computer via a cable. It is awkward, but for an emergency it works.
I pretty much only use my camera phone - honestly it takes better pictures than my real camera. I can quickly and discreetly take pictures and then I email them home so they are ready for me when I get home.

I went to a smart phone about three years ago and worried about the monthly fee. The first day I was out shopping with it I was able to self assign two shops (that ended up paying my monthly fee) that would have surely been gone if I waited until I got home.

Surely makes sense; I'm considering it, but may still start with my tracfone, and upgrade phone

Tracphone is advertising a 19.99 phone w/camera and I think web. You probably know this, but it is alot cheaper to buy minutes on line than the expensive cards. Let me know if you buy one. I think I probably will. Not willing to give up the landline yet and cannot afford 2 monthly bills.
