Curmudgeon in Michigan

Greetings. I lived many years in Texas but currently reside in Michigan. Now, I joined this forum in June but I forgot about it. I am a curmudgeon and I forget things. I was angry about something when I woke up this morning, I just can't remember what it was that I was angry about. So how does this relate to mystery shopping? Well, not very well you might say LOL. Anyway, let me tell you that I was very fortunate to get hooked up with a good company in late 2014. These people are always friendly, honest to deal with, and the company pays like clockwork every two weeks. Problem is, this is essentially the only company I work for and I need this extra income. So, I need to learn about other companies/opportunities and that is why I am here. I am grateful for this forum...there is so much I don't know about this business. And thanks to everyone for your time and effort in helping the rest of us. Cheers!

OMG, I have a doppelganger. I spent many years in Texas, now back in Michigan, and also a forgetful curmudgeon from time to time. Welcome to the forum doppelganger, and check out the list of mystery shopper companies at the bottom of the page. Sign up with as many as you can as soon as you can, and you will begin to see more jobs besides the one company you've been working with. Other than that, just read info as it comes. The new mystery shopper area has good info on taxes and record keeping. Keep us posted on how it is going.

Paul, are you sure you are not 4Wildcat?smiling smiley

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
Lisa, Absolutely not, unless I am, but I'm totally sure maybe. Or not. Wait, what was I talking about?

Now that I've done the research and know what a doppelganger is, I wouldn't be so quick to make that assumption kind sir!! haha Thanks for your reply and I appreciate your perspective.
smiling smiley Always happy to see another Michigander here 4Widlcat. Be sure not to be a wallflower. Are you a Yooper or a troll? (and for the purposes of the forum members not from here, a Yooper lives in the upper peninsula, and trolls (like me) live in in the lower, or "under the bridge"winking smiley.

Calling me a Michigander might be a stretch but I'll take it. Was hauling RV's out of northern Indiana until the industry tanked years ago and have been up here since. Love Michigan! Now I tried to shop the UP recently...
had my rental car and res at Iron Mountain....but I never heard back on my bid. Do companies tend to be vindictive if you overbid on jobs? But 900 miles round trip is a TRIP! BTW, i was wondering if I could stay at your cabin.... Oh, you live under a....nevermind smiling smiley
Hey 4Wildcat, you may qualify as Michigander, but since you're in Iron Mountain, that almost makes you a cheese head! Non the less, you still live in MI, so we'll take you with pride. Good news, I see a lot of shops available in the UP and the northern lower peninsula that are often highly bonused, so if you sign up with all those companies on the board, I bet you can start getting some offers after some good shops. Seems to be hard to find shopper area, so get in there. Don't know about northern Wisconsin though.

Anyway, keep a look out for those moose, and if you get down to the Detroit area, PM me and I'll buy you a Strohs!

Nyet, my bad. I meant to say that I was trying to set up a trip TO the Upper P. I had a rental car and motel reservation set up but my bid was not accepted. I was clearly NOT... clear on that. See? My narrative needs to improve and that's why I need this forum! Incidentally, I'm in Portland so same holds true on the PM. Haven't really talked to any fellow shoppers so I'd look forward to sharing a cold one. Thanks.
I just moved back to MI after being gone 19 years. Luckily, since I have come back to visit often, I knew what to look for when it came to shopping. Plenty of work here in the Lansing area, and when I visit family in the Detroit area. Welcome 4Wildcat smiling smiley
Thanks. That's great to hear. I'm a stones throw from Lansing. I think the economy in Michigan is getting better and that helps everybody. At the risk of being too intrusive can I ask you which category of shops would you consider the most productive in the central part of the state?
I've only been back a month, but so far I've made quite a bit doing cell phone stores.
Around here, the car dealerships, banks, and cell phone shops seem to carry the best bonuses. Car dealerships especially. Not sure about mic mich though. I have seen some really good bonuses on the casinos in Manisteee

I appreciate ya nhgirl1970. Yeah, I'm an old codger, set in my ways. I like routine and predictability. Easier on the blood pressure. Ever so often I get a wild hair for new and different. So far I have found the comments on some of the threads pretty entertaining. Anyway, got to get signed up. On with the research. smiling smiley
Hi Michiganders! I am shopping Western Michigan, I am in Grand Rapids. Definitely, a lot of work over here. Sign up with the MSC's listed on this page and the MSPA website you will find more work near you. I've stepped back for a few weeks now and my phone doesn't stop ringing. Emails galore. But I am registered with a lot of MSC's. But I will only travel 50 miles at most but its 30 usually. No need to drive 900 miles for a shop, unless it is extremely lucrative. And for the record I have never heard the term troll for the lower penisula residents. Obviously, that came from a yooper.
Definitely getting pumped now. July 5th headline on woodTV.com," Metro Grand Rapids sees highest growth
rate in the U.S." Sing it Louie smiling smiley Gonna get me some new treads for my walker.
