New to the forum and to mystery shopping

Hi Everyone,
I just started signing up with online companies for paid surveys and mystery shopping jobs so this is all so new to me. I’m a homemaker with both of my kids in school fulltime now. I have free time during the day, and I have been trying to figure out what I want to do since September. It wasn’t until last month when I read an article about side hussleing that I became interested in this field. What are the top 10 best sites to register with first? What is the best advice you can give me as a newbie?

Although the money is motivating,
I’m doing this more to have fun while feeling mentally stimulated and challenged. I’m a total people person and love talking to and asking rediculous annoying questions to customer service representatives. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten something for free from companies that I have open accounts with. Just recently my security system company made a huge error on my auto pay account. I was relentless about getting compensated for the inconvenience and spent over 10 hours on the phone over the course of a few days until I was fully reimbursed and also given over $2,000 in security equipment. My husband gets so annoyed with anytime we have to do something that requires us talking to a sales rep.

Looking forward to dive into this new field with the help of all of you!

TSip,
Asking aggravating questions is soooo NOT what Mystery Shopping is all about. We portray very ordinary customers with common, reasonable questions and are asked to report objectively on what we observe. The LAST thing a mystery shopper would do is to make themselves memorable! You may want to start by going to the New Mystery Shoppers area of the forum and reading all of the topics that are "pinned" to the top of the list there.

There is no magic "top 10" MS companies since there are over 200 and what you love, I may hate. Also, in order to qualify for the better paid shops from any MSC, you may have to do a number of low pay assignments, with top marks, before you will even see a shop that pays $15 or more. It's all part of learnng your new profession.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I would not be asking aggravating questions, I simply used that as an example of how I enjoy talking and asking questions, and don’t mind lengthy conversations.
@TSip
I completely agree with @walesmaven's response. The entire point of what we do is simply going into an interaction as would any customer and reporting on the experience. Sometimes, we need to ask specific questions so that the client can find out if their training is successful. Most shops do not require long conversations and those that do nearly always ask that we let the associate take the lead. Read up in the "new shopper" area. It will really open the mystery shopping world up to you.

As for companies... As mentioned above, Bare, International is a fine company. I would also start with the most frequently discussed companies on this forum - they are all large companies that will almost certainly have work in your area. If you really get going with this, you'll want to be with most/all MSC's. I add new companies as I have time and see them mentioned here.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
